Maruti Suzuki Double Export Target

Maruti Suzuki India plans to double its exports in this fiscal years. The company is expected to garner a turnover of nearly Rs 20,500 crore.

Talking to media persons, the marketing and sales executive offer Mr. Mayank Pareek said " we have a export target of 1.3 lakh units this fiscal." Currently, the company was exporting top sellers like the A-Star, Maruti-800, Zen Estilo and Swift models.

Mr. Pareek said that nearly 70,000 units of A-star were shipped to destinations in Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands and other European countries. The A-star is available as Alto in European countries. The company will also market 30,000 units of the same car to Nissan Motors company to be marketed as Nissan Pixo in European markets.

The rest of the 30,000 units will be non A-star models Maruti 800, Estilo and Swift, which are high in demand in African countries and neighbouring Sri- Lanka.

The new target of over a lakh units is nearly double that of last year exports. In the last fiscal year 2007-08 Maruti had exported 50,000 units and the number went up to 70,000 units in the last fiscal year ending on March 09.

In the domestic market Maruti Suzuki had sold 8.8 lakh units of which the hatchback comprised of 5.12 lakh units.

Currently the number of small cars in he A2(company car) segment include - M800, Omni, A-star, Alto, Swift Hatchback, Wagon-R and Zen. The newly launched Ritz hatchback has joined the ranks in May this year.
