Marvel Says Kick-Ass the Movie Coming Soon
The Movie Kick-Ass is Living Up to It's Name After Footage is Released at the San Diego Comic Con
The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn, who produced Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and is the husband of Claudia Schiffer. He was also selected to direct X-Men 3, but had issues with some of the people aboard and dropped out two weeks before the filming began.
The film centers around a character named Dave Lizewski, an ordinary high school student in New York city who takes his interest in comic books a little too far and decides to become a superhero. He makes himself a suit and mask and search training and eventually decides to start fighting crime but, the very first try it ended with him being beaten and stabbed.
He survives and undergoes several operations, but once he is healthy again he decides to continue to fight crime. He stays a man from another beating and someone captures his image and uploads it to YouTube and suddenly overnight Dave becomes a superhero.
This comic stays true to current times because YouTube is actually what made him a hero and he sets up a MySpace page for people to contact him much like Batman's big light. The very first time he is contacted for help on MySpace he manages to get his butt kicked again, and is ultimately saved by a girl named Hit Girl.
The promotion of the movie has taken several bizarre twists and the main characters name of Dave Lizewski was chosen after a man, of the same name, who chose it at a charity auction that was being held, that was to name the main character in Kick-Ass. YouTube and MySpace have also been extensively used to promote the film. Dave will be played by actor Aaron Johnson, and Nicholas Cage will play the father of Hit Girl.
Kick-Ass creator, Mark Millar is an award winning comic book writer and is a native of Scotland. He is best known for comic works in Avengers, Spiderman, Ultimate Fantastic Four, and more. Miller was inspired to become a comic book writer by none other than Alan Moore (Swamp Thing, "V" For Vendetta), and landed his first comic book writing while he was still in high school. Miller has done stints with 2000 A.D. (creators of Futureshocks), Sonic the Comic, and Crisis, and was noticed by DC comics in 1994.
