Marvel Studios First Official Open Casting Call for 'The Avengers'

Alan Baltes
Walt Disney Company owned Marvel Studios is currently in pre-production on the upcoming superhero blockbuster film "The Avengers". The film's main roles were cast in Los Angeles, and smaller speaking roles as well as extras, stand-ins, and photo doubles will be cast in New Mexico, Cleveland, and New York. The first official open casting call is being held in Albuquerque, NM late March 2011.

"The Avengers" will be filmed almost entirely in New Mexico, and will become the state's largest feature film production ever with an estimated budget surpassing $200 million. New Mexico has a 25 percent rebate program intended to bring major film and television productions to the state, but the rebate is less generous than what some other states such as Louisiana and Michigan offer.

The film will be directed by Academy Award nominated Joss Whedon, and shot in 3-D. Whedon is also re-wrote a script that was originally written by scribe Zak Penn. Marvel Studios Co-Presidents Kevin Feige and Louis D'Esposito, VP Development and Production Jeremy Latcham, Executive Vice President of Visual Effects Victoria Alonso, and Executive of Animation Development Joshua Fine will all oversee production for the studio. Jon Favreau will co-executive produce "The Avengers" under his Fairview Entertainment banner.

Details on how talent can submit for acting roles, and open call details for extras can be found on the following casting post:
