Marvel Studios and Their Comic Book Movies

Keeping track of your favorite Marvel Studios movies can be a headache these days although some information can be found at Marvel.com (click here). Hollywood currently has no shortage of comic book movies either on the market or in production or even just in various planning stages. It seems as though every couple of weeks a new comic book movie is being announced and only the hard-core fans really knows what is what. Each studio has its own flavor and particular style or level of quality. So far, Marvel Studios has shown a great determination to provide the best quality and a style that is fit for a family to enjoy together with children (with some discretion, of course, super heroes can be quite violent). All in all, Marvel Studios seem to be taking their comic book movies seriously.

Here is a list of comic book movies that Marvel Studios has produced with various levels of success and in no particular order.

Spider-Man 1, 2 and 3 have all been huge block-busters and Marvel Studios has planned two more of these comic book movies for the near future.

Hulk is comic book movie with mixed reviews and Marvel Studios is giving it a reboot that will be called Incredible Hulk.

The Blade trilogy is a somewhat lack-luster comic book movie that has a strong fan-base but a poor review history. Marvel Studios has no current plans for a fourth installment.

Punisher is possibly the worst performer of the Marvel Studios comic book movies although it had stellar DVD sales and rentals. A sequel is currently in the works.

Daredevil performed well at the box office but not so well in reviews. Marvel Studios currently has no plans for a sequel and the ultra-violent plot makes for a comic book movie that is not really suitable for young children.

X-Men trilogy is a series of comic book movies that has great box office performance and Marvel Studios is currently producing one prequel film and a second is planned.

Fantastic Four and its sequel have received mixed reviews but both comic book films have performed well at the box office with the sequel performing better. Marvel Studios currently has no plans for a third film but likely will in spite of the reviews.

Ghost Rider did well at the box office as a comic book movie but also received poor reviews. A sequel as been announced but Marvel Studios is not currently producing one.

The above comic book films, while including the Marvel Studios logo, were not heavily controlled by the company. Now, however, Marvel Studios has direct control of all of its future comic book movies. The first comic book film actually produced by Marvel Studios was the recent block-buster Iron Man, the first in a planned trilogy, with the next film lined up being the Incredible Hulk comic book movie. If Iron Man is any indication, Marvel Studios just might be able to pull off rave reviews and stellar block-busters all the time. With their future comic book movies, Marvel Studios will have its hands full with the challenge. Plans for comic book films can change at any moment, but future titles (as listed on Imdb.com, just click here) so far include:

Dr. Strange

The Avengers

The First Avenger: Captain America

Deathlok

Luke Cage

Ant Man

  • Past hits and misses.
  • New opportunities.
  • Future plans.
Until the release of Iron Man, Marvel Studios has had little say in the direction of their films. Now that has changed, possibly for the better.

We've saw all of the ones already out. I haven't heard of some of the others coming, but I'm sure my husband will know them. We like most of the movies. I guess our least favorite so far was Daredevil.
