Mary, Did You Know?

Did Mary Know?

Marie Anne St. Jean
Mary, Did You Know? is my favorite song of the Christmas season. Written by Mark Lowry in 1984, Mary Did You Know? has been performed by many entertainers, among them country hit artists Reba Mcentire and Clay Aiken.

Below I've created an acrostic poem composed of the first letters in each word of the song title, Mary Did You Know?

May you remember this holiday season
And herald the birth of Christ
Recalling his prophetic birth
Yet destined to die for us

Did Mary know her child born that night
In a stable dark and cold, would
Die for her and all mankind. Mary, did you know?

Yes, born of man but son of God
Our Savior, Christ the King
Unto us a child is born, the holy angels did sing

Kneeling shepherds look upon Him in awe
Nestled in hay, the Babe unaware
Of the miracle, His birth, bringing life to all
While entrusted to Mary's care.

Let there be no doubt, Jesus is the reason for the season.

Another beautiful reminder that the reason we celebrate Christmas is to celebrate Christ.

"Mary Did you Know" has become my favorite Christmas carol and your poem just fit it so perfectly. What a beautiful way to enhance the amazing song. And what a way to share with all the true meaning of the season.
