Mary Kate and Ashley Sequin Dust All Over Shimmer: Product Review

I recently purchased a small shaker bottle of Mary Kate and Ashley Sequin Dust All Over Shimmer. The product is a very fine glitter meant for use all over the body. Unlike many other glittery cosmetic products Mary Kate and Ashley Sequin Dust All Over Shimmer is dry glitter so it does not contain any liquid to facilitate roll-on application. There were numerous colors available; I chose sparkling sky, a gorgeous mix of ultramarines, mica and shimmering ingredients. I found the glitter to be a perfect blend of numerous blue shades and sparkling ingredients.

The sequin dust all over shimmer costs approximately $3.00 for a small 5 gram (.18 oz.) shaker bottle. Since the all over shimmer is a dry glitter though, you aren't paying for any unnecessary liquid. I've found that the small bottle stretches a long way and seems to contain as much shimmer and color as many bottles of roll-on shimmer 10 times its size.

I noticed Mary Kate and Ashley's cosmetic line one day while shopping for cosmetics. The all-over shimmer immediately caught my eye because of a placard depicting a model wearing it as an accent for her eye shadow. The placard promised the glitter would give a high drama look. Mary Kate and Ashley's cosmetic products have a tendency to lean toward all things dramatic and shiny.

After purchasing the product I first tried it one evening before going out for a night on the town. I immediately liked the bottle the sequin dust is contained in because it didn't shatter when it slipped through my butter fingers and hit the floor before I even had a chance to use it. I noticed too that the cap did not pop off like it would have with many other kinds of bottles; this is because the all over shimmer has a sturdy, screw on cap. If you have ever had to clean up a large mess of finely ground glitter you will understand what a plus the secure lid is.

The sequin dust bottle was very easy to use. It has a built-in shaker piece with several holes. I had only to shake the bottle lightly to get a moderate amount of sequin dust out. The plastic shaker piece is also easy to remove and replace making it easy to get a lot of glitter at once if you prefer.

I found that it was easier to first shake a little of the sequin dust into my hand and then apply it to my body rather than just using the bottle to apply the dust where I wanted it.

Mary Kate and Ashley Sequin Dust All Over Shimmer is beautiful, when used in moderation it gave my hair and skin just the right amount of shimmering blue color and sparkle. I've had experiences before with some types of cosmetic body glitter that just made my skin look dirty or were so glittery as to be garish. This was not a problem with Mary Kate and Ashley Sequin Dust All Over Shimmer.

My only complaint was that the sequin dust would not stay put for very long on my hair or on my skin unless I applied it heavily. Its lack of staying power when used lightly is caused by the fact that it is pure glitter and doesn't contain any kind of liquid or lotion. I soon solved the problem by mixing the glitter with some of my favorite cosmetics, body mists, leave-in conditioners and anti-frizz serums. When used in this manner the sequin dust stayed put for hours.

I also discovered that the Mary Kate and Ashley Sequin Dust All Over Shimmer blended easily with loose powder eye shadow. It also adds instant glamour and drama to my eyes when I used a make-up brush to apply a thick line of the glitter to my eyelid. The product stayed put when I used it this way but was also very easy to remove once I chose to.

I will happily buy Mary Kate and Ashley Sequin Dust All Over Shimmer again. I found it to have a variety of uses and be a good value. I recommend it for anyone looking for a fine glitter to blend with beauty or cosmetic products and to anyone who wants to play up features such as eyes or lips.
