Fasten Your Seat Belts, It's Going to Be a Bumpy Ride!

Milwaukee, WI November 20 2006 - Tracy L. Coenen, CPA, MBA, CFE, a nationally-recognized fraud examiner and expert witness, has developed a website to educate and inform the public about the Mary Kay Cosmetics business opportunity. Pink Truth (www.pinktruth.com) has quickly become a valued resource to hundreds of thousands of women around the world.

Coenen, a highly credentialed and experienced fraud investigator, is utilizing her expertise on fraud to reach out to current and former independent representatives of Mary Kay. Widely-available internet access has made information and opinions shared by these representatives available to women considering becoming independent beauty consultants.

As a former member of Mary Kay's independent sales force, Coenen has first-hand experience with the abuses that occur in multi-level marketing companies like Mary Kay. Typical abuses in MLM companies can include incomplete information given during the recruiting process, unsubstantiated earnings claims, and pushing large quantities of inventory on new recruits.

"The site is aimed at putting information in the hands of those who need it most: those who are considering signing up and those who are struggling with their Mary Kay businesses," said Coenen. "This is a rapidly growing public awareness campaign to give women access to potentially negative information about the Mary Kay business opportunity. Women deserve to know the truth about their chances of success, the typical earnings of a beauty consultant, and the realities related to recruiting new members."

As the visibility of the site expands, Mary Kay's corporate executives have taken note, even advising high-level members of the independent sales force to discourage members of their downlines from visiting the website. Coenen has received hundreds of emails thanking her for the positive impact the website has had, and she intends to continue providing information about the Mary Kay opportunity so that women around the world can make well-informed decisions.

My daughter was lured in and not given anywhere NEAR the information she needed to make an informed decision about becoming an MK consultant. She is now in debt and hoping she can liquidate her inventory. After she bought a large amount of inventory at the urging of her recruiter and director, she was effectively dumped. We are actually considering a lawsuit.

I completely agree with every woman who has gotten on here and defended Mary Kay! It's simply a biased article about an ex-consultant who didn't do it the "Mary Kay Way" You can't re-invent the wheel. If you don't work the business like you are guided to and commit yourself just like any other job you will fail. Mary Kay is in no way a scam, we don't "lure" young girls in and take advantage of them. I'm 19, sell Mary Kay and it's paying my tuition, not only that i'm a month away from Directorship and a free car. If you don't work your business the Mary Kay Way, then you. will. fail. Stop blaming us consultants who work hard and enjoy our jobs.

  • True to the Mary Kay way...10/3/2009

Wow, I am so offended by all the accusations made about Mary Kay. I can say for all of us true to the "Mary Kay Way" we appologize for any bad experiences any customer, potential client, or "ex" consultant have had. Mary Kay built this opportunity to Enrich Womens lives. One of her favorite golden rule is "treat everyone as you wish to be treated". Take into consideration with over 2 MILLION consultants there are bound to be a few bad apples striving for success and going about it in all the wrong ways. Once again the golden rule will apply and that's "what goes around, comes around". Keeping Mary Kays heritage alive is extremely important to us true consultants, especially now that she's not with us.

That being said I'd like to move onto the comments of all the unfortunent, negative feelings coming from ex consultants! With the proper attitude, determination, and faith you CAN and WILL make it. This isn't some get rich quick scheme as you may have hoped for. This is an opportunity

I was in MK for two years. I ended up buying thousands of dollars of products, most of which I still have. I went to the meetings, which are nothing more than glorified pep rallies where cheap trinkets are given out and people are told repeatedly about all the "big" people in MK and how much money they have made. The underlying implication is that if you are not as successful, then you are not working your business like you should. The company tries to lay a lot of guilt on women, and I found that to be much worse from the higher level women (Director and National Director). My own Director was great and I told her up front not to push me or it would have the opposite results. She encouraged me but never pushed. In my case, I originally just wanted to do small orders so I could meet the minimum requirement of $200 wholesale every 3 months and get my own products at wholesale. But I found that many people just aren't interested in MK. I found I can't use the TimeWise cleansers

I hate that people are complaining about such a wonderful company who helps many many women get themselves and their families to a better way of living. I have been with Mary Kay for almost a six months now and I love everything that Mary Kay is. We do so much more than just sell lipstick we build life long friends. Not only that but the charitable foundation stands for a lot by itself. I agree with Sushi the people that are generalizing and slandering Mary Kay need to grow up, just because you all didn't make it doesn't mean that others won't. I have and never will push people, and I still make the sales, still get the recruits and one day soon will have my first car. Mary Kay has really helped my family and so many others that I know. I feel sorry for those of you who have nothing else better to do then to sit back and complain about Mary Kay. As to the consultants on here keep going and you will make it. Good Luck

I recently became a MK Independent Beauty Consultant and I have to say the main reason I joined was to make some extra money, get a great discount, and I truly love MK Products! My Director is awesome! She was upfront about joining and what I had to do. I have to say at first, it was more money out of pocket than I had expected as far as purchasing inventory! I however, held my debut party first and sold over $600.00 worth of products, so out of my Pocket I only spent about $100.00. I do not keep a lot of inventory, but I have found that my clients don't mind waiting four days to get their products, I may run into a time where someone does not want to wait and I lose out of a sale, but I will cross that bridge when it happens! The only problems I have are getting recruits, and this is my fault, simply because I do not like to hound people and pressure them, because I know how it makes me feel, so I have been selling for about 2 months and still no recruits! I have decided to be a bit m

I have been a Mary Kay consultant for several years. In my experience I have not ever been pushed or prodded to make outrageous purchases in inventory or otherwise. I have NEVER been pushed to even give classes or host parties. I have been allowed to work my business when, where, and how I wanted to. I am still a consultant by choice, I have limited time to promote right now due to other commitments. My business however is still profitable and I am able to keep inventory for my regular customers. I am terribly saddned by all of the negative comments and generalizations about this business. Sure there are some people out there who are snakes in the grass; but those are in any business no matter where or what that business is. I have had a policy the entire time I have sold Mary Kay, I do NOT like to be pushed. Therefore I will not push someone else, whether it is looking at a catalog, taking my card, trying product, or anything else. I have always let them contact me (I have m

can't your daughter return the product 90% wholesale value? I know this doesn't completely take care of what happened but at least it's something.

  • summer6/28/2008

Hi Paula....I am really sorry that your daughter experienced Mary Kay in that way. There are people in EVERY organization who do not work with impeccable standards or work ethic and obviously this is one. I am a director in Mary Kay and I must tell you that 16 years with the company has allowed me to see both sides. Your daughter obviously was of age to make an informed decision. The problem it sounds to me is that it was not an "informed" decision. All I do ask as a business owner with Mary Kay is ladies please STOP generalizing that ALL DIRECTORS and CONSULTANTS and the COMPANY supports this behavior. The company does not and Mary Kay Ash would NEVER support it and neither do MANY directors and consultants. Generalizing is dangerous slander!

  • sushi6/28/2008

okay pink chick. On what facts are you basing your discovery on. Last time I checked.....consultants receive the same 50% as any director does and have the same opportunity to earn commissions from the company. Consultants who don't work....don't make money. How long would it take for you to not show up to work before you got fired!! Personally, what happens is consultants fire themselves and then blame others so they can justify their behavior. Time has come for the CEO of the company to say...Oops! I did not do my job.
