Maryland District 38A Mourns the Loss of Delegate Page Elmore

B.J. Rychener
Wicomico and Somerset Counties in Maryland mourned the loss of Delegate Page Elmore today at his funeral in Salisbury, Maryland today. Delegate Elmore died at age 71; just a week after announcing that he wouldn't be running for a third term in the Maryland House of Delegates due to his increasing health concerns.

Recently Delegate Page Elmore was hospitalized at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland where he was first admitted in May of this year. After being released two weeks ago he was re-admitted this week due to a fever and it was soon announced that he was terminally ill.

Elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2002, Page Elmore served Wicomico and Somerset counties as the representative for Maryland District 38A until his death. More bills were passed into law by Delegate Page Elmore than any other freshman delegate from January 2003 to April 2006. He supported many local issues including those with the dwindling blue crab population and tax reform.

A well known and well liked individual, Elmore was active in several regional causes including being a member of the Blue Crab Task Force, the Lower Eastern Shore Children's Center Advisory Board (until 2008), the Citizens Advisory Board for the Holly Center, and the Alcohol and Drug Council for Somerset County.

In the later part of his term as a Maryland Delegate, Page Elmore, along with Senator Lowell Stoltzfus, helped to find funding for the state grant that allowed the building of the Alice B. Tawes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center that would provide homes for 76 residents, plus 30 assisted-living residents, overlooking the Annemessex River and Janes Island State Park.

Delegate Page Elmore was also a well respected business owner serving and Owner/Chief Executive Officer of Shore Disposal Inc. from 1965 to 1998.

Funeral services were held today, June 30, at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Interment followed in Parsons Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Methodist Church Endowment and Trust Fund, 406 N. Division St., Salisbury, MD 21801; or the Salisbury University Foundation, Margaret Johnson Elmore Nursing Scholarship, 1101 Camden Ave., Salisbury, MD 28101.
