When we first came in, there was a waiting period for a table. Understandably that this may have been due to the fact that Christmas was only a couple of days away. My wife and I are not adverse to waiting if we are wanting to eat at a particular establishment (Red Robin and Olive Garden, we almost expect there be a wait time for about 15 minutes to be seated at a table).
The first noticeable issue is the lack of personal acknowledgement. Working any service/hospitality type of industry, one of the most important faucets of any business is personal acknowledgment. A simple greeting of "Hi, welcome to (name of business)" or even a "Hello, I will be with you momentarily" was not even mentioned. I had to approach the Host and request to put my name in. From previous experience at other restaurants we patronage, we would always have someone smile, acknowledge us, and take our names down. Never had I carried the burden of going to the podium and request to put my name on a list - almost like Oliver Twist in Charles Dicken's book going up and asking for more while holding out my empty bowl.
Once we were seated, the highchair provided for our 13 month old daughter had a broken clasp. We did not strap her in and she did not end up sitting in the high chair. We previewed the menu, the prices seemingly a bit steep yet competitive to places like Red Robin, and placed our order. The server who waited on our table seemed burdened and overworked. No bother asking us how we are doing, simply just asking what we would like to order.
After placing our order, we waited for our meal which did not take that long to arrive. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger. At almost $10.00 for the plate, the one disappointing thing was that the bun engulfed the patty. About an inch of bun hung over the patty all around. My wife's burger actually was bigger and filled out her bun. The fries were warm, despite the cold service we received.
As we left Bob's Burger and Brew, I commented to my wife that we were better off spending the money for our tab over at Red Robin where we would have gotten much friendlier service, personal acknowledgment and an order that was not too overpriced for the food.
Overall, my first impression of Bob's Burger was more of a disappointment than a hearty well-done. I would not recommend this restaurant and give it a thumbs down rating.
