So, when a mascara commercial comes on television or I'm going through the fashion magazines I always read the mascara ads. Iperuse the aisles in the stores thinking one day they will come up with a miracle mascara. I am the mascara maven.
In the flapper era women"beaded" their lashes. They wanted the clumping and layered to get it using a cake mascara. In Egypt eyes were defined with Kohl. anotehr interesting fact is that you see eye make up on rockers, more lately then ever. Is it manscara?
To start with every single make up line seems to have a mascara to promote.
Maxwear Mascara is by Max Factor. It is waterproof and won't clump or run under any conditoin. Good for the delivery room I bet.It gives you extreme volume. Their blurb says Wild nights? Wild weather? Bring it on! Well it gets pretty wild in labor and delivery. Max wear sells lash coutore with its Lash Perfectin Couture Mascara withpatent pending IFX brush. They offer 13 diffrent mascaraas.
L'Oreal is another well known brand. There is L'Oreal Voluminous, L'Oreal Lash Out or L'Oreal Grand Curl. These thicken in seconds but do tend toclump and occasionally bleed. You need to apply a layer and wait until it dries. Then apply another layer.
Cover Girl is your low priced drugstore brand. They claim they will multiply the look of your lashes without clumping or flaking. They say Cover Girl sticks to itself not your lashes to lengthen and separate and is easy to remove.
Helen Rubenstein goes way back.. The price range is $30 to $32 for a mascara wand if you can believe it. They promote Lash Queen waterproof mascara. This claims to be smudge proof, coats each lash root to top and give maxi length and fullness.
Almay is hypo allergenic. They sell Almay Brite Eyes, which comes in unique colors like blue and plum. Almay Intense i Color is rich without much clump. It isn't waterproof but does come in colors that enhance your eye color. It coats evenly and lengthens your lashes 50%. Unless you have real stubbies like mine.
Bobbi Brown is a big name in fashion make up. She makes five creamy ,non drying, highly color saturated mascaras. They are waterproof and defining without clump. They give great coverage, no smudge and no flaking. Many mascaras come in many colors, blue, green, plum, black, browns.
Another high end brand is Lancome. They claim to lengthen your lashes 30%. They offer to give your eyes definition. They sell Lancome Flextencils for full extension, Tendrecils for the sensitive eye and Eterncils which is waterpoof. This sells for $22 at most department stores.
Mary Kay offers it's signature mascara in ultimate, lash lengthening or waterproof.
Jane offers a unique idea. A mascara with a primer on one end and them ascara on the other. This gives you half the mascara beause the other half ot the tube is the primer but according to this plan the white primer will coat your lashes thus giving the mascara a thick base. it's called Max lash. I didn't find it a huge improvement but it was in interesting, unique concept.
The key selling words seem to be plump, define, volumize, extend, thicken, refine, disperse, lengthen and exaggerate. Batting your lashes isn't mandatory but long lashes are.
Mascara should not be shared and only should be kept for 6 months since you are touching your eye with the wand . Putting it back into the lash material in the tube and then touching your eye again. It's an easy place for germs to breed. Speaking of the brush or applicatore that is another are where every turn twist, spiral, thickness , thinness has been offered. Some brands are now patenting special applicators like Max Factors IFX brush.
Mascara certainly can improve the look of your lashes. For someone lash challenged like me ,I find eyeliner and smudgy shadow does the trick and I don't have to be concerned about flaking, running or raccoon eyes.

Post a CommentThanks for the info. I too am "lash challenged"!
The 6 mo advice came from the company. They get to sell more mascara that way.
That 6 month advice sounds sketchy. If mascara is germy, it does not take germs 6 mos. to breed. LOL. But it IS a good way to keep women buying more mascara.
I love the Lancomes Definicils...:) good idea for an article...cheers
