Some of us have the luxury of getting a massage done by another person. However, when there is nobody willing to do it for you than you can also do some basic massages by yourself. You can actually give yourself a good massage.
There are two ways to do a self massage. Done slowly & carefully, it will help relax the body, improve blood circulation & help reduce swelling from an injury. On the contrary, a quick massage will lessen fatigue & revitalize the body. Perhaps you have seen how physical therapists give quick massages to professional athletes during a break or half-time period of a sports game. It is an example of a quick massage but it is done by somebody other than your self.
There are many advantages to having a self massage. A massage belt, massage glove or simply your hands can be used for it. A variety of techniques can be used depending on which type of result you want from your self massage. You can massage either to stimulate yourself or harmonize your nervous system.
A 20 minute massage is sufficient for a quick stress relief. Place yourself in a correct position. Sit in a comfortable chair that supports your back & neck or lie down on a bed. Concentrate on one part of your body that you want to massage. Be patient & do not rush your massage to other parts of your body.
Self-massaging techniques
Kneading: Massage your muscles as though they were bread dough. Apply some warm vegetable oil or essential oil of your favorite aroma.
Rubbing: Rub your muscles in a circular motion with the palm of your hand or fingers.
Vibrating: Light slapping with the back of hand or knocking rhythmically can improve blood circulation & help relax tense muscles.
Final strokes: End each massage session with gentle strokes in an outward direction.
Another tip to for you to reduce fatigue is to begin a massage from your legs. Brush your skin gently in a circular motion. Proceed upwards & inwards towards your heart. It is a recommended massage to do & I have found it to be a good start to my mornings. Do it before a shower so you can consequently wash away the perspiration. It will help to give your blood flow a nice start to the day.
Take a careful look at your skin before you begin any self massage techniques. Avoid applying sudden & excessive pressure to areas where your skin appears broken or red. Be careful & always massage in an outward motion. Happy massaging!
