Master Cuts: More Than a Discount Salon
The Best Place for Hair Styling in Novi Michigan at Affordable Rates
I am not one to think that more expensive is always better especially when it comes to a hair stylist. I have had my hair destroyed by the most expensive place in town and rescued by the cheapest place in town on more than one occasion. But Master Cuts? I really questioned this.
Since my teenage niece wanted to get her hair highlighted for the first time in her life, I really had doubts but the choice of places wasn't up to me and $29.00 wasn't too much to lose if they did a horrible job. So we headed out to Master Cuts in the Twelve Oak Mall.
Upon arriving at Master Cuts, we were welcomed both stylists were ready for us. While, they do take walk-in's they also accept appointments and in this case the appointment was to our advantage. Given this was the first treatment of this type for my niece there were many questions about what was to be done and how.
The stylist took her time in answering all of our questions, gave suggestions but never pushed for any specific treatment and listened as we explained what the desired look would be in the end. Then she got to work.
Once my niece was situated, my stylist began to ask me questions. What kind of highlights did I want? What color, what my desired effect. Now, keep in mind, I normally get my highlights and then go pick up a bottle of Miss Clariol, which basically leaves me with some really nice undertones. I have done this because after so many years of coloring my hair, highlights often become brassy and I always liked the effect this particular method had for me.
So, after convincing the stylist that I was not going to leave my highlights uncovered, I knew she thought I was crazy, even though she didn't show it. Many have told me so over the years, I doubt this woman was any different. But she took the time to talk to me about what I was doing, how I was going to do it and then went to work to give me what I asked for. She did discuss with me getting chunky highlights versus the more subtle ones and I decided to take her advice and try it. Really what was the worst that could happen if I was going to cover them anyway right?
As we went through the process, the stylist was friendly but not invasive. She interacted not only with me, but my niece in the chair across from me and my mother who I was quite sure was going to start crying at any moment as he eldest grandchild changed her natural hair.
After time under the dryer, washing the chemicals out and having my hair blow dried, the stylist finally gave me a mirror. I was laughing at her because she insisted I wait until my hair was ready before I could look.
As she turned me toward the mirror, I almost fell out of my chair. My hair looked fantastic. A simple seven foil highlight treatment had changed my entire look and yes, it hides the roots on a head that was overdue for a good color job. I was stunned. I can honestly say this is the best my hair has ever looked. Given I am 45 years old, my hair has gone through many styles and looks and there have been many I loved but none came close to how much I loved this new look that Raina my new favorite stylist had given me.
As I stared at myself in the mirror, I watched out of the corner of my eye as my Lakely continued to work on my niece who has much thicker hair than mine. Little by little, I saw the strands of hair dry and fall into place and where my quiet, shy niece who looked like a little girl once sat appeared a beautiful young lady.
If you live near or around Novi, Michigan, I highly recommend Master Cuts in the Twelve Oaks Mall. Both stylists Raina and Lakely were personable, friendly, conscious of our needs and wants and very professional.
As for me, I won't be purchasing a bottle of Miss Clariol but I will be purchasing Master Cuts Merry Makeover. For under $50.00 you get a shampoo, conditioner, hair cut, style blow dry, seven foil highlight and eyebrow waxing.
I will be returning to Master Cuts for all of my styling needs very soon. Master Cuts currently is running many specials for the holidays, make sure you check them out. Check Master Cuts main website http://www.mastercuts.com/default.asp to find a location near you.
