General guidelines to rate herbal medicine course education.
The course should include anatomy, physiology, pathology, biochemistry, medical terminology, nutrition, botany and plant identification, Materia Medica, Therapeutic Herbalism, Pharmacy, Pharmacology and Dispensing, Clinical Skills, and more. The depth of the courses again depend on the level of training required from a simple certificate, diploma, certification or license.
Accreditation or being licensed is not a requirement to obtain a Master Herbalist diploma. Some herb courses are one part of extensive years of training leading up to becoming a Naturopathic doctor or holistic health physician.
Course Costs:
Courses start from $400 for a simple self education course to thousands of dollars depending on the level of the education. Costs that are additional include books and other course materials. Some Clinical Herbal diplomas require you to go to the school for special training and clinical practice. This can involve a lot of money depending on where the clinical practice must be taken. If the course is accredited and leads to a license, the course will require a 4 year residency at a college.
