Master P's Open Letter to Rapper 50 Cent

Celin Childs
Despite the fact rapper and entrepreneur Master P is starting to make positive changes in Hip Hop music, rapper 50 Cent (a.k.a. Curtis Jackson) downsized Master P because he is not willing to do the same.

Master P admitted that he was once apart of the problem associated with today's rap industry, however, now he wants to be apart of the solution. He wants the African-American community to wake up and realize that there is something better out there for them. He wants to leave behind the negative explicit words and focus on the positive aspects of the industry.

Master P stated that he paid for 50 Cent's first rap tour through the south; he even mentioned how humble 50 was at the time. Master P wants to focus on saving and changing lives not destroying.

50 Cent has taken a different stance on the situation. When he was asked by EUR's Lee Bailey if he would "get with the program" and voluntarily remove offensive lyrics from his music?" 50 Cent responded, "Are you familiar with politics? Are you familiar with the President's No. 2 man? You're familiar with him resigning based on him using, maybe what we'd call a dating service? Maybe he's hanging out with hoes that we mention in the music. If that doesn't make you aware of a situation that exists...."

"Music is a mirror, and hip hop is a reflection of the environment that we grew up in. It's the harsh realities that end up in the music. If I ask you to paint a picture of the American flag and not use the color red, you're gonna have a difficult time. To capture what we try to capture in the art form, I'm sure some conservative Americans can't [identify] with it because of their lifestyle and the way they've actually been brought up, and they haven't been exposed to those realities."

Master P responded to 50 Cent's comments in an open letter as a motivation for himself. He mentioned how the immature people in the world need to grow up and be responsible for their own actions. He stated that his mission is to save lives unlike most artist's missions are to sell records.

Master P stated how disappointing it is to see people who are in a position to help make a change and then they sit back and entertain the negativity. He commented on how Steven Hill sets the programming standards at BET, just to contradict himself for the sake of marketing dollars or the artist performances. He knew that his comments about BET would probably cost him and his son's invitations back to the station or the station's award ceremonies, however, he is really inspired to do what is right, regardless of the price.

Master P stated that there are four things that make him and artists like 50 Cent different from each other. One, he can honestly admit that he was once apart of the problem. Two, he does not want his son to grow up and be like him. Three, money does not make him, he makes money. Four, he is a true entrepreneur; his boss is God not Jimmy Lovine.

Master P mentioned that he had lost so many relatives and friends over the years, and now he wants to turn his focus to making comedy movies. The first movie he is planning on producing is "Black Supaman" and then "The Mail Man" starring Tony Cox and himself. He is also going to be setting up a book tour for "Guarenteed success" and a Hip Hop Business class with Curtis Oaks a financial expert. His ultimate change in the rap industry will be his own positive movement with Take A Stand Records.com.
