Mastering Joomla: How to Install the Events Calendar Module onto Your Joomla Website

A Step-by-Step Tutorial on Installing the Joomla Events Calendar Module to Your Website

The Armchair Geek
Joomla's Events Calendar is a very useful module that can be used to manage events, meetings, seminars, and party dates. This Joomla module is the ideal way to keep your events organized so that your website viewers can view and access them. Many organizations use the Joomla Events Calendar to post dates of upcoming events and dates. Teachers can also use the Joomla Events Calendar to post assignment due dates and important notices.

Here's how to install the Joomla Events Calendar to your website:

Step #1
Before you can use the Events Calendar on your Joomla website, you will need to download it first. The module can be downloaded at this link: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,95/Itemid,35/. When you do your download, you will need to make sure that you download the full package, which includes both the module and the components files.

Step #2
With the installation files downloaded, you can begin installing the module onto your Joomla website. Now, before you install the module, you must first install the component file.

Step #3
Log onto your Joomla administrator page and click Installers. On the drop-down menu, click Components. Then, click Browse and select the component file of the Joomla Events Calendar. Make sure that the file has a "com_" prefix, which indicates a component file.

Step #4
After you have selected the component file, click Upload File and Install.

Step #5
Now that the component is installed, you will now install the module file. Click Installers and then Modules. Click Browse as you did before but this time you need to select the module file, which has the "mod_" prefix. Next, click Upload File and Install.

Step #6
You have now successfully installed the Events Calendar module! To access it, you need to go back to the main administrator page and click Modules and then Site Modules. The Events Calendar will be listed as Latest Events.

The Events Calendar is not the only calendar module available for Joomla. There is a multitude of other options for you to choose from. Other useful calendar applications include Attend Events, Events List, eventCal, Gcalendar, and gigCalendar.

Attend Events
This is a calendar that is used as an events registration component. The add-on manages events registrations and can be very useful if you want to create a registrations system for a particular event on your website.

Events List
This not a calendar, but events list. This calendar extension lists important events in an itemized list format.

EventCal
Another useful calendar extension, this add-on is very similar to the Events Calendar. EventCal has many of the features of the Event Calendar such as an interactive calendar with important dates listed. It also features many layouts for calendars so that users can view them by month, week, or day.

GCalendar
The GCalendar add-on is a calendar application developed by Google. It shows upcoming events, latest events, and important dates.

GigCalender
If you are a band performer, promoter, or an event coordinator, I would recommend the gigCalender. The gigCalender maps out touring dates for bands so that fans can have an accessible schedule of your performances.

  • NO intallers no drop down menu. NO intallers/modul2/27/2009

HI i download a zip file from this page:
    http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jevents/frs/

Then went to joomla CONTROL PANEL (is this the administration?), and then hit: EXTENSIONS/ install uninstall. And i install the entire zip. So not sure what you referring to when you said to go to installers and find the component, and then browsed (do you mean to say we have to UNZIP first to find this specific component). I have no INSTALLERS option on my JOOMLA 1.5. There is none of the stuff you said.
