A Step-by-Step Tutorial on Installing an Managing Banner Ads on Joomla
Step #1
First, you will need to obtain an ad from a client willing to buy ad space. The file needs to be in .jpg or .gif format and must fit the dimensions of your web page. Once you have retrieved a banner ad, you will be able to post it on your website.

To post this ad to your Joomla web page, you need to log onto your Joomla administrator page. On the administrative page, you click Site. On the drop-down menu, click Media Manager.

On the Joomla Media Manager, click Directory and choose /banners on the drop-down menu. Click Browse and select your client's banner ad.

Once selected, click Open to upload the file. Now you need to click Components. On the components menu, click Banners and then select Manage Clients.

Click New to create a new client. Fill out client's information such as time period and number of clicks.
*If you sold your client a certain period of time, you can choose exactly how long you want to banner ad to appear on your website.
*If you sold your client a specific amount of clicks on the banner ad, you can allot the number of clicks the banner ad can receive before it's disabled.
*If you did not sell an amount of clicks to your client, you can select the "unlimited" option on the field that asks for number of clicks.

Once you have finished inputting information, you can now click the Save button in order to save your client's information.

With your client's information updated, you can now display his or her banner ads. To do so, you need click Components once again. After that, you need to click Banners. On the banners menu, click Manage Banners.

Once selected, click New. Enter the banner ad's title. Now you need to choose the banner ad's respective client. After this, you need to enter the web address that your client provided. This is where a user will be redirected when clicking the banner ad. After you have entered the client's web address, you can now choose the ad file. Click Save.
Step #9
Finally, you need to check the column that says "Published." If an "X" is marked, you need to click on it to change it to a check mark. Once checked, you have published the banner ad on your website.

Post a CommentI agree, the first page is fairly comprehensive but the second page glosses over the most important topic - the actual managing of where banners appear and where they do not. If you sell 40 ads, you've got to know where you (and your clients) want them!
Screenshots would be helpful in this article, because I have no idea where banners appear by default.
I followed the above instructions, but how do I actually control where the ads are being shown in my joomla site. Is this controlled in the template itself?
I was hoping to find this information in this short tutorial, but I guess I have to look further...
