Match Paint Colors to Your Personality

Let Your True Colors Show

When choosing paint colors for a living room it's always best to consider personality traits and what the rooms intended use is. Different colors promote unique feelings. Knowing the purpose of the room will help determine shades, accents, and overall paint design.

Living rooms are the heart of the home for some families. In this case, calm, serene colors would be called for. This will help your family relax after trying days and enjoy spending time together. Light blues, greens, and beiges would be good choices in this instance.

If you plan to use the living room for entertaining, brighter colors are called for. Oranges, bright greens, and reds will get the heart rate up and the excitement level increased. Bright living room colors will give that added punch to any party.

For couples that use the living room as a winding down area for reading, watching television, and talking quietly, subdued colors are a good bet. Grays, browns, and creams are excellent color choices for relaxation. These colors will not compete with other items in the room, or draw your attention away from conversation.

Sometimes you want your own unique personality to shine through in your design style. An optimistic, outgoing woman might choose yellow as the main paint color for a living room. Yellow is a bright, lighthearted color that causes warm, upbeat feelings.

Pinks, oranges, and light greens are good choices for families with young children. These colors are bright and happy. Children will respond to this. It's an easy way to bring a smile to your child's face. As an added bonus, let the children help pick the colors.

Artists who wish to display their works in the living room would want to choose clean, stark colors as a backdrop. White, blacks and grays are good choices. These colors are the perfect background for bold, stylistic artwork.

If you are going for a clean, minimalist look, whites, light grays, and dark blues are good paint colors. These colors offer crisp backgrounds and look uncluttered. A true white leather couch in front of a navy blue wall is very striking and stylish. One vase on the table beside the couch would be the only accessory needed, keeping with the minimalist theme.

Determine what activities are going to happen most often in the living room. Decide if you want your own personality to show through or if you'd rather the room has universal appeal. Considering these two things will ensure you pick the perfect paint colors for your living room.

I've always been drawn to purple for some reason, and red for decorating, I enjoy your interpretations of color and what it means! :)

Great information, Angel. Wall color is an inexpensive, yet dramatic way to make an impact in a room. Our living room is a relaxing green. It's the perfect space for kicking back to relax and enjoy our family.
