Material Girl Debuting August 3, 2010 at Macy's

Madonna and Lola Create a Website for Upcoming Clothing Line

Madonna ruled dance/pop in the '80s - '90s and inspired many fashion and beauty trends that still reside in a few closets today. Come August 3, 2010 a new generation will be inspired by vintage Madonna with the debut of Material Girl. While Madonna is the big name behind this collection, the creative force behind the collection is her daughter Lola.

Materialgirlcollection.com

Madonna and Lola have launched materialgirlcollection.com to keep fashion maven up to date on the progress of the collection and garner additional interest. Long-term the website looks to give visitors a sneak peak at the creative process of the line along with blogs from Lola and the rest of the creative team behind Material Girl. Blogs from Lola talk about the line, her fashion interests and inspiration. Since Lola is the creative force behind the collection, these blog posts should clue readers in on possible looks for upcoming collections.

The Material Girl Collection

In the 1980's Madonna was nicknamed "The Material Girl" after her hit single Material Girl. True to form this collection is heavily inspired by the 1980's and the styles Madonna made popular during that decade. Lola is currently stuck in an 80's frame of mind as her June 29, 2010 blog post indicates.

The website shows five ensembles from the upcoming collection that seems eerily similar to the costumes of a particular 1987 movie. For those who remember Madonna's first major role opposite Griffin Dunne in "Who's That Girl", a couple of the five looks may remind you of the clothing Madonna wore in this film. Pay attention to the leather studded jacket and tulle skirt on the site. Also the floral miniskirt is reminiscent of the close fitting skirts Madonna used to wear that were popular in the 1980s.

The junior's line is not an exact replica of the styles Madonna made popular in the 1980s. Material Girl is modern enough to look fresh and trendy, not dated. Tweens and teens need not worry about looking like their parent's yearbook pictures. Lola appears to be constantly on the lookout for new sources of inspiration so it is unlikely every season will resemble a Madonna video or Brat Pack movie. As Lola gets older expect to see the clothing line evolve. Who knows, maybe Material Girl is the first in a Madonna fashion franchise. Could Express Yourself be next?

Good reporting. Victoria Beckham seems to be doing well with her clothing range.
