Math 4 for Christian Schools: A Review

Alicia Bodine
What I love about Math 4 for Christian Schools as well as the other Math textbooks from Bob Jones University is the way they incorporate characters in to their lessons. Each book comes with a set of characters that are presented throughout the book. The characters go on journeys at the beginning of each unit. The journey ties in with the Math concepts that are being taught within that unit.

Math 4 is based on a retired navy captain named John Bailey. Mr. Bailey works for a museum in Florida. The director of that museum sends John Bailey to search out and bring back rare treasures for the museum. Your child will take this exciting journey with John Bailey and learn Math along the way.

After researching what 4th graders should learn in Math I find this book to be of excellent quality. This book lacks nothing in the educational aspect so you can be sure your child will learn everything they are required to learn in 4th grade Math. There are also added bonuses. There are sections throughout the book and in the back of the book that deal with computers and Math. This is an excellent addition considering we are living in the computer age. There is also another section at the back end of the book called "A Time Together". This section gives parents some ways to teach their children Math using everyday situations. One example would be to let your child count out the money needed at the grocery checkout counter.

You can buy Math 4 for Christian Schools at Christian Book Distributers. The whole kit totals $80.50. The kit includes The Teacher's Edition (lesson plans and how to teach each lesson), Home Teacher Packet (worksheets to be given to your child), Tests, Student Workbook (assignments), and a Student Materials Packet (manipulatives you will need for each of the lessons). I highly recommend you get the complete set although you can purchase each piece separately. Buying the whole set will give your child the maximum benefits they need to excel in Math.
