Matrix's Vavoom "Hold My Body" Forming Hair Gel

A Review of Matrix's Hair Styling Product

After recently stopping by a pharmacy to pick up a hair gel and noticing that the pharmacy did not carry the one I typically use, I decided to pick up Matrix's Vavoom "Hold My Body" hair forming gel for a try. My hair is curly and very hard to style, so going in I did not have very high expectations for this sculpting gel. After putting some in my hand, I noticed that the gel had a very pleasant sweet smell that was light enough to enjoy and not too heavy for the hair. The gel itself was not too thick but also did not run through the fingers, which I found to be a huge plus since many forming gels are made too thin and run down the hair before it can be properly applied and styled. After applying the gel, it took about 10 to 15 minutes to dry, which I see as both a plus and a minus, since it is an acceptable drying period for me but may be too long for some users. Also, the gel was very successful at holding the hair together throughout the day. After applying a generous handful to my hair and styling it up, I found that the shape and texture held for over a day, which is very impressive considering most gels start cracking and collapsing after a few hours.

A huge plus with the gel was the fact that it did not flake; a problem which I had in the past with other products was the fact that my hair would flake and spread a white dust throughout where the gel was applied, which did not happen here. Even after the hair became soft the next day, there were no white flakes and the hair simply became softer. The only problem I had with this product was the cost; I found this product to be one of the more expensive available on the market, with a 14 oz. bottle going for roughly $15, a cost that some may forgo in favor of a cheaper product. I would not recommend this product to those who use a lot of gel (especially those with long hair or extremely thick hair) since you will fly through a bottle very quickly and the cost of replacing bottle after bottle will eventually add up. In that case, I would recommend this product to those who style short hair since those are the people who would get the most value and use out of the gel. Longer hair needs a more efficient styling product like Maxx Hold that is sold in much larger bottles, and Vavoom's Hold My Body should really be reserved for mostly men and women with shorter hair and easier to sculpt styles since the gel does tend to harden faster than other products.
