Matt Giraud is Far Better Than What He Showed on March 31 on American Idol

While it was difficult to understand how Matt Giraud finished in the bottom three last week on American Idol, it is very easy to think that it will happen again this week. Most of the performers stayed within themselves this week and sang very safe songs. To his credit, Matt stepped out a little bit and did something much different than he has during previous weeks, but it was totally wrong for his type of voice.

Randy constantly tells Matt that has a Justin Timberlake thing going on and that he does. You can see him as the lead singer for a 'boy band' or continuing to impress with his vocals and piano work as a soloist. As far as pure singers go, he is right there with Kris Allen and is easily one of the top four in the competition. However, he does not have the range that Kris does and it was very apparent on Tuesday Night.

The moment he started singing "You Found Me," it was very obvious that he was out of his element. Matt tried to get a gritty sound that he is simply not capable of. It is actually quite a shame because he seemed to be pretty amped up about the song before his performance. He recovered somewhat about half way through, but then fell right back into a sad attempt at the original.

With the lack of support that was shown for him last week when he delivered a top notch performance, you will have to wonder where he will end up when all of the votes are tallied up on Wednesday night. The one good thing on his side is the judges have one save and it is obvious that they all think he is very talented. This may be the week that it gets used as I just cannot see him garnering anything close to the amount of votes that he had last week with such a weak performance on Tuesday night's American Idol.

The shame of it all is that some of the singers that don't even deserve to be on the same stage as him obviously have a loyal following and regardless of where he finished out this week, it is unlikely that he will outlast the performers with less talent. America needs to wake up and get behind Matt as he could really make this competition close during the final weeks. Let's just see if he can get past this week and get back on track.
