Matt Giraud May Have Given His Last Performance on the April 14 American Idol

Matt Giraud was back at the piano where he has done so well and where everyone loves to see him. Time and again he has wowed up with both ballads and up tempo songs that simply take our breath away. However, this week was not one of those weeks. This was easily one of his worst performances of the show and has him in danger of being sent home.

Matt could not have picked a worse week to throw in a clunker. Anoop was one of the stars of the show and Allison continues to improve. Adam, well Adam is Adam and is someone that I don't think we will ever have to worry about getting kicked off the show. While Kris also laid an egg, his following is far too strong for him to be in danger and we are left with Danny, Lil and Matt to battle it out for the bottom spot. Danny was probably owed one and while he was bad, he was not nearly as bad as Matt.

The shame of it all is that Matt is a great singer. It is amazing that he is capable of dropping the ball like this. I have noticed that he is much better when he goes on early and seems to fall off when someone else lays down a great performance in front of him. This may be something that he needs to address quickly, if he gets the chance.

Matt sang "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman" and it was actually a shock that he could not pull it off. The song was set up for him and he just could not hit the vocals in the arrangement. Randy actually mentioned this when he was going over the performance, but you would have had to have been deaf not miss it. There were several spots in the middle that were just plain awful. It was just a bad showing by what we have all come to think of one of the best on the show.

If I had to guess, I would say the two people that will be sweating it out on Wednesday night would be Matt and Lil. It is really hard to choose from either of them because the performances were so weak. However, I think the judge's really like Matt and if he does end up getting voted off, he will be saved for a week and get one more chance next week. If he is lucky, the voters will follow Simon's opinion and Lil will be the one to go. He has every reason to be worried though, because this very well may be his last show. If Lil is not off, the judge's may feel that he is not enough competition for Adam and Matt could be sent packing.
