Mattel is Taken Down by the Rightful Owners of the Bratz Creation

Bratz Are Gone

Chad R. Herman
As I sit in the toy section and listen to my 7 year old daughter and her friend try to decide whose the more bratty or "Bratzy" as they put it, i can't believe what I'm watching. First they debate who has poutier lips. Then they start to measure eachoter's butt as dependednt on the Bratz doll's butt. They each sit down and take off their socks and shove them in their shirt and start to walk around like the Bratz dolls, and this is where I have to stop this whole thing.

Bratz, those pouty faced teen-aged sexual looking dolls that have over taken the Barbie spotlight, now seems to have another mar on their spotted leopard print pants. Turns out that the Bratz dolls never belonged to Mattel, and Bratz are leaving the showcase for good.

Bratz were originally created by Isac Learin and his wife as a new doll to add to their collection of dolls these make and sell. (bodazey.com) They make a wide range of dolls and this kind of doll in particular was a major hit when they first created it. Not only was it a major hit, it was their number one seller. They were approached by Mattel to buy this doll, but the sale never went through. The large toy conglomerate then began manufacturing the doll saying that "there might be similarities, but it's not the same doll." (Associated Press)

In January of 2009, Isac and his wife won a 6 year court battle against Mattel. The Brazt dolls will blink out of existence in the winter of 2009. After witnessing that ridiculous competition between my daughter and her friend I can't think of a better scenario that that beautiful situation. However, after talking to many of the parents of my daughter's friends, they sigh a sigh of relief. To be rid of these teen-age dolls marketed to kids will be nice. However, as I watch the merchandise fall away and my daughter's interests go other places; i wonder if what the next thing will be and ponder if I'll want the comfort of something as simple as Bratz to come back.

Well, good for them if it was their idea. I don't know much about the dolls but you're right, it won't be long before your daughter has a new passion.
