Matters, Anti and Not

Brendan W Vittum
matters, anti and not

Twelve and three -
two
times on the day
light
met
darkness;
sat to chat,
share a little
coffee, a little life.
A blending of matters -
anti and not anti - volumes
writ, souls, hearts, intellect
poured to the floor
indelibly
scarring, healing.

Living light - Day - tinged
with Night - the breathing
dark - dyed with Day. Each
staining the other.

Twelve and three -
two
times on this day
And light, exploding
with the fury of spring
time, rebirth,
blinds the night, fades it back
to Its darkness; leaving night
howling
at diminishing words and all
shrinks
down to the screen,
Its illusion
of Day moved
past.

Twelve and three -
two
times on this day - nothing
remains now except
fading thought and a spoon
stuck
in an old jar of Skippy (creamy
for the toothless), slowly drying
brownies plated, mixed
with coffee and the Saturday
Sun, afternoon at the Met -
Die Zauberflöte.
