Matthew McConaughey: Sexy Both on and Off Camera

Matthew McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas on November 4, 1969. He grew up in Longview, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. Not only has he starred in many movies the last two decades featuring him as a hunky bachelor falling in and out of love, but he also works for charities and has his own production company, j.k. livin, with the purpose of helping teenage kids. He was voted Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine in 2005. Is it any wonder, then, why this sexy Texan has captured the hearts of millions of American fans?

As if being a gorgeous hunk of an actor known for his roles in romantic comedies isn't enough to woo an American audience, Matthew McConaughey is also a human and animal rights activist. After the traumatic events of Hurricane Katrina blew through Louisiana and other southern states, McConaughey joined in the relief efforts to help victims and rescue pets left behind in the wake of disaster. According to Softpedia.com, the Texas native rescued 70 pets from Slidell, Louisana on Labor Day weekend in 2005 and stayed with them as they were rescued by ferry boats. And his charity didn't stop there for victims of Katrina. According to People Magazine, he also auctioned off his 1971 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible on eBay back in 2006. All the proceeds from that auction went to Oprah's Angel Network. McConaughey's selflessness are evident in his comment about the auction, "I am fortunate enough to have everything I need, and the sale of it will help so many with the necessities in life."

The Dazed and Confused actor's animal activism also showed up in April of 2006, when he rescued a cat that had been doused with hairspray and almost set on fire by a group of juveniles in Sherman Oaks, California. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, he immediately brought the cat to an animal refuge.

Matthew McConaughey may not have any Oscars or other high achievement acting awards that so many other actors can boast about winning, but he has something much more important: a charitable soul. His activism and charity is just one more reason to love this gorgeous actor. Well, that and because he looks so damn good without a shirt.
