Mattresside: The Murder of Bedding

Perhaps Turning it Over Will Do the Trick!

David A. Reinstein, LCSW
Matricide
Of mom,
Patricide
Of dad,
Fratricide
Of a brother,
Genocide
Of a people -
And Cyanide.
All about death.

To murder
A mattress
Seems oxymoronic
At best,
For it was never
Alive
As were each of the rest.
But, eventually,
It dies, too.
With or without
Our help.

If it dies while we sleep
Is there inner meaning?
Did we dream it to death
Or did our sleep
Allow weaning?
Some things are not
Meant to be 'grocked'
By a stranger
In a strange land;
The death of bedding
Can come as a shock.

Do inanimate things die?
Does death require life?
Questions worth wondering
Maybe,
Or perhaps better left
To run though
The space between our ears
As we laugh, cry and groan.

Has anyone ever tried
Deliberate and cruel
Mattresside?

All the mattress abuse from kids jumping mercilessly...is that where it begins?
