Maurice Clemmons is Dead After Police Confrontation

Maurice Clemmons is dead after police action in Rainier Valley Tuesday morning. Clemmons was shot and killed outside of a South Seattle home when he challenged authorities that were on the scene. Maurice Clemmons is the alleged killer of four Lakewood police officers that were killed on Sunday morning in Parkland, Washington. That shooting set in motion a massive manhunt for Maurice Clemmons that had the resources of many police departments as well as the FBI. The manhunt proved fruitful as Maurice Clemmons was tracked around western Washington until he was found in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

Police have the murder weapon in hand and though it hasn't been officially reported, they must have traced that weapon to Maurice Clemmons to spark the manhunt that has taken place over the last two days. The news is slow to be released as the authorities continue to gather evidence, and it's apparent that media agencies like ABC are way behind in coverage as they are still showing Monday morning reports in order to add filler to a story that they have no facts about. According to KIRO 7 News out of Seattle, gunshots rang out at around 2:30 A.M. near South Kenyon Street in Rainier Valley. It was reported that Maurice Clemmons was transported from the scene to Harborview Medical Center but that the suspect has died.

The death of Maurice Clemmons isn't going to bring an end to this case, as there are still a lot of questions behind the motives of these killings, and with the death of Maurice Clemmons some of those answers might be gone for good. The intent in tracking Maurice Clemmons during this massive manhunt was to bring him to justice, but it seems that Clemmons wasn't willing to go quietly, and instead turned on police when he was finally confronted early on Tuesday. It is not clear yet who fired first, but it sounds like Clemmons must have been armed for him to be fired upon by authorities at this time.

Four officers were killed around 8:15 A.M. on Sunday when a man walked into the coffee shop where they were preparing for a day of work and fired upon them. Two died instantly, one was able to return fire, and a fourth reportedly was able to confront the suspect before they died as well. The thought had been that the suspect was injured during the fight, and authorities were hoping that he had been shot so that he would have to seek medical attention. Later in the day on Sunday it was announced that Maurice Clemmons was a person of interest in the case, and a massive manhunt began to try and find out where he was. That appears to have ended with the death of Maurice Clemmons just hours ago.
