Maverick/Barracuda Vs. Bambi/Bully

McCain/Palin Vs. Obama/Biden

Donna H. Davey
Yesterday I couldn't contain my enthusiasm over John McCain choosing Sarah Palin to be his running mate. I peruse and participate on Free Republic and this was a pick that has long been talked about and coveted. We were also prepared for and predicted the hateful attacks that are coming from the other side. In which case I respond with, "That's charming, keep offending average American's because big city elitism will not help you win votes; no one likes condescension." Furthermore, the foaming-at-the-mouth hit pieces on Sarah Palin will only disgust the center and invigorate Republicans, and believe me, we are energized!

I support the McCain/Palin ticket whether they win or lose. That's not to say I'm crazy about McCain (he was not my favorite), but according to the issues he's much better than the alternative. I was going to vote for that reason alone but I wasn't on fire for my candidate and I wasn't willing to donate. That is, until yesterday's announcement. I am on fire for Sarah Palin and to show my support for her, I donated to the McCain campaign. Yesterday, Sarah Palin delivered an articulate, energetic speech, and unlike Barack Obama, she did so without the assistance of a teleprompter.

I agree with Sarah Palin on many issues and find her remarkably inspiring. She is from a down-to-earth, middle class family; she married a blue collar husband, and she can relate to hard working America. She earned her way, single-handedly, and didn't have to ride hubby's coattails to the top.

Sarah Palin is the real deal and she has intimidated the leftist media and those that believe their bias in less than 1 day. As one Freeper put it, "She's Reagan in a skirt and that terrifies the Dems."

One of the qualities I love about Sarah Palin is that she lives what she believes. For example, she is a member of feminists for life and is a pro-life mother of 5. She knew early on that the son she was carrying had Down's Syndrome. Approximately 90% of those pregnancies end in abortion. Sarah Palin refused to have an abortion and she is blessed with a beautiful baby boy. She doesn't just talk, she lives her beliefs.

The most prevalent attack against Sarah Palin is her so-called lack of experience. The leftist media and their supporters are driving this home so hard they are screwing themselves into the ground. The hypocrisy of this is that they don't mention Barack Obama's lack of experience even though he's gunning for President while Sarah Palin is aiming to be Vice President. I guess to them, a man with no real achievements is qualified to be President while a woman with actual accomplishments lacks the experience to be Vice President. I know what I would call that and it starts with an s. One Freeper put it best, "Sarah Palin served as Governor. Barack Obama served as Senator. Palin is at the bottom of the ticket. Obama is at the top. As number two, she has more experience than the Dems number one."

Let's examine the experience argument.

Barack Obama has spent well over 100 working days in the Senate, but he's campaigned during most of those. As sub-committee foreign relations chair, he never held any hearings or committee meetings. He has been endorsed by terrorists, and supporters of partial-birth abortion, which he aggressively supports, not to mention his involvement with an anti-American church that preaches division.

Sarah Palin on the other hand is in charge of running the largest state in the Country, one that borders two foreign countries. Her position as governor has given her chief executive experience that Obama and Biden don't have. Also, the governor of Alaska has involvement with energy (Alaska is one of our top energy producing states) and national defense issues (Alaska has several military installations). This experience that she has is superior to that of Obama and Biden.

As governor, in her first year alone, Sarah Palin reduced wasteful spending, went after corrupt officials - including the ones in her own party, and was commander in chief of a national guard unit. In contrast, Obama and Biden have no military experience.

She is also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a skilled hunter who eats what she kills, and the most popular governor in the United States with an 80% approval rating.

According to one report and this letter to the editor, she single-handedly orchestrated approval of the Alaska natural gas pipeline project, which will be the largest single construction project ever in the history of North America. She did this with no help from the federal government.

What has Barack Obama accomplished?

Sarah Palin also risked her political career to take on her own party and has worked well with Democrats. As governor she used a line-item veto to cut $268 million from state spending bills. She is a well-informed promoter of responsible development of Alaskan resources to benefit Alaskans as well as the rest of the country. She is well aware that this is not just a matter of economic necessity, but also one of national security.

Sarah Palin is the epitome of change, but it's not something moving to gush about in speeches, it's something she actually delivers.

I'm all for change but it depends on which kind. As for me, I think the Democrats can keep their idea of change because I'm voting for substance.

In closing, a fellow Freeper summed it up better than I can:

Palin has a great story of accomplishments. Palin and her close friends can tell her entire story. Sarah Palin's experience as a PTA mom and experience as a mayor relates to heartland America at a deep level, and obviously being a governor brings executive experience.

It's an governor's job to oversee all publicly related operations within the state. Among other items this includes budget, veto authority, justice and law enforcement, and commander of the states national guard. It should be noted that the Alaska governor gains both unique intricate knowledge of vital natural resource issues and unique international experience because it the only state in the union to border both Russian territory and Canada.

Obama's story stands in stark contrast. The witnesses and friends to Obama's story are people like Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Weight, Frank Marshall Davis, and Bernardine Dohrn. Obama doesn't want the witnesses of his life and close friends to tell his story....even if he accomplished anything he can't tell it....a senator sitting in congress being in the majority party when congress has a 9% approval rating and doesn't even have one bill with his name on it.

Some observations:

Obama's Marxist speech and the Palin VP pick has energized us more then I have ever seen since Reagan. Palin is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-moose hunting, pro-drilling, small government, strong defense, fiscal conservative knockout. (knockout pun intended).

McCain/Palin is now firmly carrying the reform/change flag...Biden typifies the Washington good o' boy crowd, Alaska is far removed from Washington. Palin's entire political career is built upon removing corruption and reform.

McCain/Palin has the all American coolness factor...fishing in Alaska, moose hunting, piloting a small airplane, husband champion snowmobiler (nickname "First Dude")

McCain has some class, but Sarah Palin, I'm sorry to say is a bit short sighted and opportunistic. I've always been a Democrat because I believe that Democratic philosophy simply makes more sense than Republican philosophy. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are who this country needs right now, and the Republicans will not be winning the election.

Excellent article Donna! I, like you, was voting for McCain but not thrilled about it, and certainly not moved into action. Following her introduction to the campaign, I too have made a contribution to their camp and am extremely excited about the energy and direction this election has taken! She was a brilliant choice and it is so refreshing to finally see the Republicans fearlessly fighting back. McCain/Palin 08 - Palin/Jindal '12! :-)

Excellent, Donna. Even tho' I think this was published the day begore the announcement of Bristol's pregnancy, nothing has changed for me. I think the feminists just want THIS feminist (who is a member of Feminists for Life) to stay home because she's a conservative! I must go with the man who has come face to face with an evil enemy, and that is John McCain.

Excellent article, Donna! Senator McCain made an excellent choice in Governor Palin. I'm finally excited about this race! Palin is going to smoke Biden in the debate. The Left has been thrown completely off their game. They can't beat her on the issues, so they've resorted to gossip, rumor-mongering and a vicious hate campaign against her family with some help from their MSM allies. I was already disgusted with them, yet they've managed to hit some new lows. God bless Governor Palin and her family! Great work!

I thouroughly enjoyed your article and also cant wait for Mrs. Palin to debate Mr. Biden. Its so very refreshing to finally see on the internet the voice of reason and sensibility.

  • Joanna Swartz8/31/2008

I feel exactly the same!!! I was excited when I heard about the VP choice and read about her!!!

Thanks for another great article, Donna. Selecting Governor Palin as their #2 was a brilliant decision from the McCain camp. It's so refreshing to see someone who says what they mean, means what they say, and has actually done something they've signed their name to. Obama and Biden can keep blowing up the airwaves with all their hot air and woe-me 30 year old sob stories. I am so impressed with the stark contrast between Palin and Hillary Clinton. I would love to have this woman sitting second chair in the White House.

A well voiced opinion, from yourself and the freepers. The race is getting interesting. I will enjoy watching her debate.
