The month of May is the Awareness Month of many important issues. This article will go over several of the issues and ways you can support those causes or get help if you need it.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month. According to the National Stroke Association a stroke is when either a blood clot blocks an artery or a blood vessel breaks interrupting blood flow to the brain. The NSA also states that stroke is the third leading cause of death in America and the #1 cause of adult disability. What is important to know here is that most strokes are preventable. You can click the above link and go directly to the National Stroke Association. Once there you will find a wealth of information on how to prevent a stroke, symptoms of a stroke and treatment of a stroke.

May is also Mental Health Month. Our mind is a strong force. There really is power in positive thinking. The way our economy is today stress is prevalent and that stress can cause mental health problems. Worrying about our finances, stressing over our jobs, etc. All of that can not only effect us physically but mentally as well. Some may just experience mild mental health problems, but in others it can lead to severe depression. There is help available if you are experiencing serious mental distress. You do not have to suffer alone. In fact, you are not alone. For more information or to get help immediately you can contact Mental Health America at #1-800-273-TALK. Click on the name above and you can go directly to their website for more information.

Osteoporosis Awareness is also in May. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation Osteoporosis is a disease when the bones become very fragile and more likely to break. When Osteoporosis goes untreated it can progress until a bone actually breaks. Osteoporosis is very treatable. Click here to find out ways you can prevent Osteoporosis.

May is Blood Pressure Awareness Month. According to the New Fitness website 1 out of every 10 Americans have high blood pressure. Many of those who have don't even know it. High blood pressure is known as the silent disease. It is up to each individual to find out their blood pressure numbers and do what they can to keep them where they need to be. Eating right, exercising, and avoiding too much salt can all contribute to having a healthy blood pressure.

I encourage you to find ways you can support these causes that are part of May Awareness Month.
