May December Relationships

May-December romances have always been around in society, with many celebrities now involved in these romances, it removes some of the taboo. Are you contemplating this type of relationship? It is more socially acceptable if the female is the older part of the May-December couple.

By definition, a May- December romance is a relationship where one part of the couple is much older than the other is. The difference can be ten, twenty, thirty years or more, and it does not matter if the male or female is older. While most segments of society do not tolerate this, in some areas it is the most perfect thing in the world. This is what makes the distinction between acceptance or not.

One thing is clear about these types of relationships, love them or not they are a part of our society. There are benefits to this type of relationship which are not available in relationships were the couple are close in age.

Name Calling in the May-December Romance

In the case of a male who is older than the female, some will call the man a dirty old man or the woman a home wrecker. Sometimes when a younger woman is with an older man, she is called a gold digger, home wrecker, or worse. However when it's the woman who is older than the male she is called a cougar! What an awful double standard that is.

It's the older female and younger male relationships, which are seen as more acceptable within the society. Society seems to treat better and is more accepting of these types of relationships.

Equality in the May-December Romance

There needs to be equality in these May December relationships, both are equal and one type is not better or worse then the other. With the older male and younger female society sees them very differently. Very few people in society view these couples as people who wish a relationship. Most of our modern day society feels these types of relationships are based solely on sex.

I know of one such couple, he is thirty years older and they have lived together for almost five years now. I have seen the looks people give them as the walk into a store; it does not seem to bother them. They are both truly happy people who have made a great life with each other.

I have also heard of couples where the female is the older of the two. Take Demi and Ashton for instance, many people see nothing wrong with this type of relationship. What does it matter really for society if the couple themselves is happy?

Perhaps if more people really looked at the benefits of the May December romance they would see the couples for what they truly are.

Benefits in the May-December Romance

While many people talk of the younger part of these couples being gold diggers, there are some other benefits to the couple.

The older man or woman is more stable financially and most of the time has his or her own homes or cars. This means the couples can spend less on housing and basic living needs and focus on the more relaxing times that life has to offer. In addition, because the older person is already established in a career or retired they will not have to work so much and have more couple time. More couple time is always a good benefit of any relationship.

The sex between an older and more experienced partner and the younger person is better in most cases. The older man has much more experience at pleasing a woman, and knows exactly how to make her soar between the sheets. The older woman who wants sex that is more frequent goes to the younger men who are able to function more often. In both cases, all the partners are getting what they wish and it is truly a win-win situation.

In a May-December romance, open honest communication can take place on many levels and the level of commitment can be deeper simply because the couple must over come the differences of the generation gaps. The generation gaps here specifically include differences in activity levels, differences in taste of music or recreational activities. Once a couple discusses this important part of the relationship they can compromise and find a middle ground and this makes them more stable.
