May I Have Just a Little

Today's God Calling message talks about the law of progress-about progress being the law of Heaven. We are to seek to move forward and live on a higher level every day.

What I like about this message is the word "little." The message bids us to be a little stronger, more patient, kinder, more loving, etc., every day. The word "little" can be actually enormous to one who's been crushed and broken. To try a "little" harder may be an enormous task to such a one. Only a "llittle" further can seem like a thousand miles to one who's flat on the ground with hope that's smaller than a grain of sand. But, a "little" through the Lord's eyes, a "little" in His hands once fed thousands. Just a "little" faith can move a mountain according to Jesus. We all have mountains to move, but and our "little" mustard seed faith in Jesus and faith in ourselves is what moves them.

Someone curled up in the throes of a deep depression might get up and get dressed today. An addict or alcoholic may say just one "little" word today-"NO!" To some folks, these are "little" things. But knowing that you need help and crying out for it when you know you can't do it alone, is enormous! When you're in so much pain that all you can think about is that fix or that drink-just one-or that high(whatever the source may be), that one "little" word "No!" is ENORMOUS!

I spoke with someone recently who had two weeks of sobriety behind him. He didn't get to two weeks from the first day. He got there one day at a time, day by day. Each day, added up to the two weeks. But, each day is a victory if it is forward and upward. To some, the man's confession, even his struggle, may seem like a "little" thing. To me, it was an enormous act of courage, determination, and connection on his part. He had the courage to admit to himself and to us that he was struggling and needed encouragement. He was determined to get through the struggle and hold on to his victory-the two weeks of sobriety. He connected to positive support in reaching out to us honestly and with openness of heart to hear our words. In doing that, he connected with God through us. Not only that, but he gave us the opportunity to connect to God through him in the moment. What an awesome privilege to have been in that moment; one enormous "little" moment.
