Maya Wrap Pulls Ring Slings Baby Carriers

Current Information for Oct 2007

Katherine M.
If you own and use a Maya Wrap baby sling be aware that a mother reported to the company that one of the rings snapped. Luckily, no injuries occured to her infant but the potential for falling is high if the sling is not adequately secured.

Maya wraps ring slings are popular among babywearers as they are easy to use and versatile for newborns up until age 3-4 years old. Maya Wrap offers a variety of fabric choices and styles of slings, wraps and pouches.

The affected Slings are those with aluminum rings, there are specific lot numbers that may be dangerous so check with their website at the following link for updated info regarding their slings: http://www.mayawrap.com/ring.php They have decided that it's unlikely that any slings made or sold before May of this year (2007) are affected by the current issue.

Currently, Maya Wrap is testing rings from various slings made in the past to determine which ones should be recalled or replaced. Aluminum rings are those that are shiny and NOT welded, they may have a M etched on them. The lot number can be found on the tag on your Maya Wrap Ring Sling so check that before contacting the company.

Maya Wrap's phone number is 1-888-MAYA-WRAP. You can email them from this contact page: http://www.mayawrap.com/customerService.asp
Maya Wraps Website home page is www.mayawrap.com

If you are someone who used the Maya Wrap pattern to make your own sling and ordered rings from www.slingrings.com be aware that your rings and maya wrap sling are not part of the ongoing investigation.

I love my Maya Wrap. Mine is older though, so it would seem it's ok. Thanks for the info!

I love my Maya Wrap! Mines a little older though, so I think it's ok. Just the same, I'll look at the rings.
