The problem of reconciling the Mayan long-count calendar with the Gregorian calendar has puzzled and intrigued researchers for years. Mayans measured time in cycles related to astronomical phenomenon. They had both a short-count calendar and a long count calendar, based on mathematical equations and their observations of the constellations and other astronomical phenomena. What most intrigues scholars is not the beginning dates of the Mayan calendar, but the projected end of all cycles date, known to us as December 21, 2012.
Some Mayan experts believe the Mayan calendar was based on precessions. Precessions are observations of the equinoxes as the earth wobbles, changing the precess of the earth's poles in relation to known constellations. In simpler terms, precession is the identification of a change, over time, in the constellations which provide a backdrop for the earth's poles. Today this is known as The Platonic Calendar. Egyptians, Babylonians, and Greeks also observed precession, but it wasn't until recently that scholars began to unravel the Mayan understanding of precession.
As scholars continue to exam Mayan calendars and astronomical observations many now agree that Mayan knowledge of precession seems evident. It has also become evident that the Mayans associated their observations with their belief system. Careful study of Mayan Mythology confirms the Milky Way as an essential part of their mythology and belief system. The position of the Milky Way was believed to be the integral opening from the heavens through with their god-king arrived on earth.
The Mayans understood that the Milky Way will arrive along the horizon during the winter solstice on December 12, 2012. Thus, the Mayan calendar does not predict doomsday, as some have referred to the prediction, but according to their beliefs it would mark the beginning of a New World Age, or significant change on the earth. This is because the Milky Way will be in a position to provide a birth canal, as it were, for the transfer of the heavenly to the earth and the earth to the heavenly.
Based on a better understanding of the Mayan calendar and culture, there is no need to anticipate doomsday on December 12, 2012. Nonetheless, the complex observations and calculations by which Mayans accurately arrived upon the exact date of an equinox over 2000 years in the future, which also correlates with a specific location of the Milky Way, is nothing less than genius.
The Mayan calendar and what has been referred to as the doomsday prophecy is evidence of the astounding intellect of the human mind through-out time.

Post a CommentHmmm well ..which comes first the chicken or the egg ...is science the basis for everything or is something akin to beyond quantum physics sucks along our reality? One thing for sure, no single explanation for reality can ever stabilize. Only change is a constant. Tomorrow, they will look at our quaint ways of understanding and say how wrong we were about so many things. So maybe December 21 2012 will simply be an ever so slight paradigm shift of the mind ... something we are becoming aware of as we are now within the thousands of days when we run out of realistic amounts of oil. Here comes the Age of Aquarius people .... are you ready?
ummm i dont know bout that u know cause God said we wont know the day or time n stuff sooo yea loophole but maybe sumthin HORRIBLY BAD may happen burt im just 11 i cant do nuthin so if it happens i MIGHT survive cause im gonna pray to Jesus Christ but if i do die i hope im at least right with God ^-^
I like this site and what it talks about but i believe different 1:god said we won't know the day of dooms day. so when he comes we'll know
This is Obama
Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, and he gave a shout like the roar of a lion. Then the angel raised his right hand to heaven and swore by him who lives forever and ever, and said, "there will be no more delay! But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of god will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.
It has already happened Obama 08!
A new age certainly will come and that old serpent will be cast out of heaven. So rejoice for the time has come for the last judgement and for rewarding the prophets which god promised so long ago. If you want to know what will happen in 2012 just keep an eye on politics just before the final hour and you will see that there is a great division and then Jesus will come. Here's the catch about the second coming, nobody will know he is the messiah not even him.
Totally agree with the guy who wrote to the scary people...send you all your money you won't need it anymore....well I am with him...
so SCARY pussies....you won't need your money anymore after 12-2012... I will collect all your money personally....I will trade it with some Faith' certificate...is that ok?..... people buy anything.....they are so stupid....
To all you people who think the world will end ...you can send all your money to me since you won't need it anymore. And to all the merchants who will use this "Situation" to get rich..I will pray for you's. And to everyone else .....If your faith is shallow you will continue to be the victims of the fear mongers.
Let us just see if these things are true. On that day December 21,2012, lets see if IT will be doomsday. But i believe that the Mayans are way above the NASA and that they know more than we do and we wont die but a new age will come
by the way when i said they were right... i meant about the fact that only God knows when everything is going to happen
