Maybe You'll Do Better Next Time

The Real Greatness Comes...

Dan Reveal
I remember dreaming of the lions,
and of the teeth they laid bare.
The chances in life are sitting at my piano,
so come and dip your hair ribbon flair.

And maybe you'll do better next time,
now that your heart has made some extra room.
Don't throw your life into oblivion--
the real greatness comes when you can sing out of tune.

Why wait for our front door kiss,
when I am the man you've known all along?
I'd say those red apples have not forgotten you
in the midst of your Saturday morning cartoon song.

I sensed life more than lived it,
as I wrote the poems of a lonely man.
I am poured out like water over your baptismal head.
I am the love letter page you can hold in your hand.

I am the love letter page you can hold in your hand.

And maybe you'll do better next time,
now that your heart has made some extra room.
Don't throw your life into oblivion---
the real greatness comes when you can sing out of tune.
