Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation: Dessert for Your Skin
My Favorite Foundation of All Time (And I've Been Around for Quite a While)
In the past, I've used some fairly high end foundations, including but not limited to other Maybelline, Clarins, MAC and Chanel products. There are a number of reasons to really like this particular brand, its price being right up there at the top. You can purchase this for under $12, tops, and usually less, since Maybelline is pretty generous with its coupons, and there are almost always specials on this brand. Also, it's sold in pharmacies, drug stores and the like, so you don't have to make a special trip to a mall or specific store to find it. Its cost can vary from $7 to $12, again based on sales and coupons. As of October 23, 2008, the product retailed for $9.00 at Acme Supermarket in southern New Jersey.
It's also easy to match up your skin tone with the mousse foundation. The color of the foundation is found on the lid of the jar, which is .64 ounces. If there's not a tester opened, you can just hold the jar up to your hand or arm to match the color. There is quite a range of colors for the product, so that may take some time. One thing that I did notice, however, is that for women of color, the choices seemed to be fairly slim: three shades from which to choose.
I really love the feel of applying it. You can use a sponge or a brush, but you can also just apply it with your fingers. It feels so soft and smooth when applied, just as you would expect a 'mousse' to feel. Perhaps it's my imagination, but it also feels very soothing when applied as well. It feels like moisturizer when you apply it. Like any good 'mousse', it has a light, whipped consistency. Because it's so light and literally almost 'fluffy', you can apply as little or as much as you'd like. I tend to go with a thin coating, and then dust very lightly with loose powder. You can also apply this more liberally if you need to cover up problem areas of your skin. I'd liken it to applying a balm or even a prescriptive cream to your face, so soothing is this mousse.
Since you don't need to apply very much, a jar can last you quite a while. Also, since its price point is quite low, you can easily afford to purchase a different shade should you need a different foundating if you're tanned or if your tan has faded. It's very lightly scented as well.
I'd strongly recommend that you give this product a try. I did, and I won't use anything else now. Remember, much of the actual price of cosmetics and perfumes goes towards the packaging and marketing of a product. Because Maybelline is such a large cosmetic company with so many different products, the Matte Mousse foundation is a perfect fit for their inventory line, is very inexpensively packaged, and well worth every penny you'll spend.
