Maybelline the Falsies Mascara Product Review

Waterproof in Black Drama

Jolynne M Hudnell
I have trouble finding a mascara I can live with. My eyelashes are fine and lightly colored, so I look for a mascara to give me color and volume without clumps. A mascara that can give extra length as well is a bonus. Maybelline The Falsies mascara actually gave me results I had been looking for.

Price. I purchased a full-sized 0.28 fl. oz. Tube of Maybelline The Falsies mascara at Target for $6.99. This is not a bad price for mascara, as I have spent twice as much to find products that didn't give me the results claimed on the packaging.

Applicator Brush. The applicator is slightly curved but not so much as the basic curved applicator. For The Falsies mascara, it is labeled on the package as a "spoon brush". The brush itself is long enough to cover most of my lashes with one stroke, while the slight curve helped to keep my lashes lifted even with the weight of the mascara.

Application. The mascara went on smoothly and evenly. When I began with my first eye, there was some clumping and I was glad I didn't spend more than $6.99 this time. But after removing the excess product from the applicator, I tried another stroke and the clumps were gone. Moving on to my other eye, there were no clumps even on the first application.

The Product. On the packaging, the directions state not to let dry between coats and repeat application until the desired look is achieved. I only needed one coat to achieve a dark full-lashed look. An extra sweep across my lashes without adding additional product to the wand produced a fuller-lashed look.

Product Claims. Maybelline The Falsies claims to give a "dramatic false lash effect". It was obvious I was wearing mascara as my lashes were so dark and full compared to normal, but they did not look fake at all. But I suppose the difference in my lashes after application gave the effect of false lashes. I have to say, the results were surprisingly dramatic.

Waterproof. I choose the waterproof version of any mascara I purchase because I am very active. It did stay put through a few tears which was beneficial to me.

Removal. Using my normal removal method for waterproof mascara seemed to remove most of the product. But my lashes still felt like there was some mascara left on them to the touch although I couldn't see any visible mascara. They were left with a thicker feel to them. Unfortunately, I did wake up the next morning with a "mascara headache" - the headache I get if I don't remove mascara before going to sleep. I will have to buy waterproof eye make-up remover for this product.

Any Problems? Besides for removing the mascara, the only problem I had with The Falsies mascara is it was hard to get all of my lower eyelashes. Whether it was the shape of the brush or the thickness of the product, I will have to figure out a way to use this mascara to work or use a separate mascara for my shorter lower lashes.

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara. Overall, I love this product. It is my favorite mascara to date. It is one of the few that actually didn't clump and it is the one that has given me the dramatic-lash look I have bee seeking. I give The Falsies mascara 4.8 out of 5.0. I did not take away point for removal as I can purchase another product to take care of that. But I did take points away for difficulty in coating my lower lashes. Even so, my new favorite mascara is Maybelline The Falsies.
