Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector: Review

Concealer and Highlighter in One

Maybelline has recently put out a new concealer/highlighter on the market. Having never used a highlighter before, and being drawn to the 2 products in 1 factor, I decided to give this product a try.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector comes in four shades and states that it provides both concealing action to hide imperfections and highlighting to give you a touch of radiance, making your skin look instantly younger.

The Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector comes in a maroon colored tube with two beige ends. One end holds the concealer; the other, the highlighter. The concealer end has a small sponge-like tip, while the highlighter has a small brush for application. Maybelline states that this product works in two ways: concealing action works as ultra coverage pigments with glycerin provide hydration and complete coverage; the highlighter has light reflecting pearls which brighten and add a luminous touch to corners of eyes, cheekbones, nose, lip.

Directions on the Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector state: To use concealer, dab a small amount using sponge applicator. To use highlighter brush small amount of product onto face using the brush applicator, use fingertip to smooth out.

The concealer appears to be a little on the yellow side, but once applied it matches your skin tone nicely. With 4 shades to choose from, corresponding to the line of foundation by Maybelline, each person should be able to find the shade for them. Application of the Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector is smooth, although the product is a bit on the runny side, especially the highlighter end, so keep in mind that a little goes a long way. The product is not cakey as some concealers are, and it provides moisturizing wherever it is applied and never feels dry.

I found that this product provided good coverage of circles under my eyes. The concealer worked well to cover up darker skin in the corner of my eyes, and did a good job covering up skin imperfections, but when used with a foundation. Using this product alone leaves your face looking like exactly what you did: concealed and highlighted. The highlighter is on the runny side, so use sparingly. I also found that the highlighter did not really brighten much as you would expect (or hope). I did try it on the bridge of my nose, the contour of my lip and under my eyes. It did not produce the radiant skin as the package states it will, but it did provide a little highlighting in the form of covering dull skin. The highlighter is useful for brightening up under the eyes a little bit after using the concealer. One of the downsides of this product is that if you apply too much of it, it has a tendency to settle into the lines under your eyes, which is not a side effect one wants with a concealer or highlighter. The neat shape of Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector is neat and it is small enough to fit into a purse or makeup bag. This product lasted most of the day, so does score points for longevity.

The biggest downside to Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector is actually its largest selling point: two products in one. I found the concealer ran out well before the highlighter did and I was left without concealer and only highlighter, which I really could do without. After all, lets face it, how many people are going to look at you and think to themselves, "Wow, the bridge of her nose is looking really radiant these days?"

This was a little on the pricey side ($8.99) for a concealer and even though you think initially the buy might be a steal since you are getting two products for the price of one, it really ends up not being much of a bargain when you have to buy another tube due to one side of the product running out. I would buy Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector again, IF Maybelline separates the two products and the concealer was in its own tube. Otherwise, I will stick to my regular concealer which does the job just fine.
