The Maybelline Shadow Stylist looks like a small bottle of nail polish with a really long wand. The wand holds a small pointed sponge that you apply the shadow with. And the bottle is an opaque brown that's supposed to resemble the color of the Casual Brown shadow inside.
Maybelline claims that the Shadow Stylist contains a "high intensity color that glides on smoothly" while the application is mess-free. When I used the Shadow Stylist the next day I thought it was very easy to apply, all you have to do is dip the wand into the small well and a few swipes of the loose powder shows up true to color. It also glides on really smoothly and feels soft and light on the eyes.
I didn't, however think that the color was all that great. I thought I was really going to like the Casual Brown shade but I didn't. I prefer warm golden brown colors and Casual Brown was more like a tan shade with a beige sheen so it wound up looking a bit too ashy looking for me. It looked like something Buffy the Vampire Slayer would've worn back in the late 90's.
Overall I thought this shade should have been called Boring Brown. It didn't make me look any better and because I have brown skin it kind of blended right in. It wasn't even that noticeable from a couple of feet away even when I applied two layers.
And although the Maybelline Shadow Stylist was easy to apply it wasn't completely mess free because the loose powder creates an excess on the wand that can wind up falling on your clothes or face, so you have to blow it off or wipe it on a tissue before applying it.
In the End...
I definitely wouldn't buy the Casual Brown color again in fact I'll probably give it away. CVS had a really lame color selection of the Maybelline Shadow Stylist, but the product itself is good though, so I would actually buy it again in another color. I give the Casual Brown shade 3 out of 5 stars, while the Shadow Stylist deserves 4 out of 5.
