Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse: Is it Really a Nightmare?

Like many women, my skin isn't always blemish-free. I was looking for a foundation that would give me good coverage throughout the day while still maintaining a natural look. There are so many foundations out there that claim to do the trick, some appearing more effective than others.

With so many foundations and brand names to choose from, I finally decided to try one of the most promising on the market, Maybelline New York's Dream Matte Mousse. With a name like that, how could I possibly go wrong? But was the name really deceptive?

Being the online shopping afficionado that I am, I decided to purchase the product through eBay. It took a little longer than I would've liked, but after it finally arrived, I was surprised to find how small the foundation container was. At only .64 oz., my first thought was that the product wouldn't last very long. Also, the shade looked a little darker than my skin tone, which was also surprising considering it was the lightest shade Maybelline offers.

When I took off the cap, I found the foundation looked very delectable in the sense that I could dip in and try a taste of it. It really looks like whipped cream or mousse! Thankfully, though, I resisted the temptation. I applied it to my skin to find that it went on very smoothly, almost like butter. It seemed to cover my blemishes, but it was a tad darker than I would've liked. It almost had an orangish tint to it, even though it was tagged "Classic Ivory".

The coverage seemed sufficient at first, but as the day went on, the foundation seemed to flake and cake off where my skin was driest. And by the end of the day, the foundation seemed to have completely worn off.

Overall, I wasn't all that satisfied with this foundation. My skin isn't even that dry, but where it was, the foundation didn't seem to hold. In fact, it seemed to intensify the problem. I fear the thickness of the mousse was clogging my pores. I would suggest exfoliating and moisturizing your skin before applying the foundation.

Also, with a limited variety of colors, you may not even be able to find the color that matches your skin tone. In my case, not even the lightest shade proved to be light enough for my skin.

I personally would not recommend this product, especially to those with dry skin.

First, I want to inform your readers that "Classic Ivory" is not the lightest shade offered in Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse. This foundation comes in 16 different shades, and TWO shades are lighter than Classic Ivory: Light Ivory and Porcelain Ivory. Check out http://www.maybelline.com/Product/Face/Foundation/dream-matte-mousse-makeup.htm.

Second, I believe that the product you bought off eBay may not have been very fresh, and that could be why it was too try for your skin. Your experience with the product might have scared you off Dream Matte Mousse, but I highly recommend going to the store and purchasing a fresh product (not one that has been sitting in a hot warehouse for who knows how long). I'm not a Maybelline employee and have nothing to gain personally from endorsing this product, I just felt the need to comment because my experience with Dream Matte Mousse has been amazing and I think you might change your mind if you give it a fair chance.

    Thanks
