Mayor of Detroit Facing Criminal Charges

Alleged Charges May Land Kwame Kilpatrick Imprisoned for 15 Years

A day to mark down in history, Monday, March 24 has been tagged as a day that the Mayor of Detroit was charged for a crime and ordered to turn himself in. As part of an ongoing investigation by Wayne County's Prosecuting Attorney Kym Worthy, Kilpatrick and his Chief of Staff, Christine Beatty found themselves behind an alleged 12 count-felony charge against them both. The main charge, being an alleged 4 counts of perjury may take on a sentence of up to 15 years, according to FOX2 Detroit Legal Analyst Charlie Langton. But according to Art Blackwell Kwame's Advisor, Kilpatrick and Beatty are not going to 'turn' themselves in, but will go into an indisclosed, set aside location and be arraigned.

You ask when did all of this even start? Well, according to Worthy, she and her staff started viewing documents in January after The Detroit Free Press published an article, releasing information and excerpts of explicit sexual text messages to Beatty's city-issued cellphone. And this was said to have been done in 2002-3. This was in contradiction to what both Kilpatrick and Beatty satated while under oath during the "Whistleblower Act" trial in 2007. Apparently, both denied having an intimate relationship while on the stand and the text messages prove that the two were not upfront and honest when they denied having an intimate relationship.

But this gets even more complicated. A month following the verdict in the Whistleblower's case, documents were revealed, showing that Kilpatrick and Beatty signed an agreement for the settlement in order to keep records of the alleged text messages from going public.

Since the release of the alleged 'sex-text' scandal, Kilpatrick has found himself in the light of other crimes. While investigating the text message scandal, Worthy and her staff have also stated that they will look further into a 2003 murder of Tamara Greene, alleged stripper for an unwarranted party held at the Manoogian Mansion. Allegations for this crime falls under the reports of Norman Yatooma, attorney representing Greene's 14-year old son; stating that Greene had been shot more than fifteen times by a .40 caliber Glock handgun; stating that Greene may have been murdered by a Detroit Police officer.

Daniel Webb, attorney for Kilpatrick stated that Kilpatrick will be vindicated of all charges, during a press conference held Monday. "They [Kilpatrick and Beatty] are ready to turn themselves in today....they will go today," stated Webb. This was in response to the ordered detention of Worthy on Monday. "I fully expect for Mayor Kilpatrick and Christine turn themselves in no later than 7 a.m. tomorrow morning," Worthy stated with a stern look.

Could this be the one thing to split the city of Detroit? You have the many supporters of Kilpatrick on the one side, who states that he should resign; Kilpatrick has done many great things for the city of Detroit and then you have the other side who has never believed in their mayor, stating that he should have been gone from office. What do you think?

I think it would be nice if our officials learned how to become super sleuths when it came to matters and issues that could actually bring positive change to our cities...they always seem to have a knack for sniffing out infidelity and sexual scandals
