The Protégé is roomy inside for a compact sedan. The front has bucket seats so that only 2 people can ride in the front. I have one infant/toddler seat in the back seat and 2 other passengers can ride along if they are small. For example, my daughter, her friend and my year old son can all ride comfortably in the backseat of this vehicle. All of the seats are comfortable and all have shoulder belts for safety (including the middle seat of the back).
Speaking of safety, this car has driver and passenger airbags so it is not recommended that children ride in the front seat at all. The airbags are a safety feature that, though I have never had a need for them, I'm grateful to have. There are big warnings on the visors that there are airbags so you cannot miss the fact that they are in place.
My car has some nice features. It has power windows and power door locks. These might not sound very impressive but before I had this car, I had a car that did not have these features so it is a nice perk to me. It also has a power sun room and moon roof feature. This is nice to have on the nice spring days we have. It does have power brakes and power steering which, in my opinion, are necessary in a car this size. I find that this car has a lot of pep when driven and it is not at all sluggish, like when I have to make a quick turn into traffic, I never worry! The Mazda Protégé has a 1.6 liter, 4 cylinder engine.
The trunk in this car is very impressive. I can fit a LOT of stuff into the trunk and I do on a daily basis, it seems. I carry around a full sized stroller in the trunk all the time so whatever else I put in there has to fit around the stroller. I can fit a months' worth of groceries from the wholesale club (including a case of diapers and a case of bottled water among other large items) into the trunk along with the stroller. This to me is ample space!
There is really nothing that I would change about this vehicle. I think that it is a safe family car that is also fun to drive. I am happy with it's gas milage performance and although I cannot quote an actual miles per gallon figure, I know that I don't have to put nearly as much gas into it as my husband puts into his Honda CR-V nor my older car, a 1985 Ford Escort. So, I know that I can go further and spend a little less on gas so that is good, especially with the rising gas prices lately!
Overall, I find that this is a really great car to have!
