MC Hammer Dead? Stanley Kirk Burrell Says "By Grace, I Live ... My Work is Not yet Done..."

MC Hammer Death Rumors Send the Net into a Tizzy

Paula Neal Mooney
MC Hammer dead. That's the search term that's gaining steam on Google Hot Trends that caught my eye yesterday and made me click on it.

Pretty soon, others were searching hard and asking Yahoo answers: "Did MC Hammer die?" "Is MC Hammer really dead?"

I hope MC Hammer isn't dead, I said inside as I read this entry someone reported on their blog, that got passed around to other blogs:

"MC Hammer dead...RIP MC Hammer (Kirk Burrell), Pop Rap icon of the 90's , passed away today in a Baltimore hospital room outside a Tribe Called Quest show in New Jersey last night, the singer was struck by a car passing by the front of the Ventura Theatre. Brunswick police say that the driver allegedly stopped, but then fled the scene. There is now a police investigation underway. Hammer was rushed to St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead this morning at 6am. This is a tragedy for the underground music as a whole."

I looked at the evidence surrounding MC Hammer's supposed death, and all these reasons led me to believe that the beloved rapper-turned-reverend was not dead:

1 - When I typed in "MC Hammer dead," "MC Hammer death," or even just "MC Hammer," Google News had no reports of MC Hammer's alleged death by a hit-and-run accident.

2 - Then I searched for "Stanley Kirk Burrell dead," "Stanley Kirk Burrell death," or other variations of "Stanley Kirk Burrell" and found no Google News reports about Stanley Kirk Burrell being listed as dead, which valid news organizations would've surely reported as soon as police were involved.

3 - The only place I found that stated MC Hammer was dead was a forum posting, which has since been deleted.

4 - Wikipedia did not report MC Hammer dead, though they did start that Sinbad death rumor that time...

5- Q-Tip was listed as performing in Baltimore at the Sonar on 10/3, and I'm reading that "A Tribe Called Quest" stole the show at the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors to be broadcast Monday (gotta check that out!) but didn't see anything about MC Hammer being hit by a car after any of their shows from legitimate news sources.

6 - Finally, I checked MC Hammer's blog and saw that he just put up a post Monday, October 8, 2007 at 2:38 a.m. in essence declaring "I'm not dead!"

Thank God MC Hammer is not dead!

But these internet rumors are getting out of hand. Don't the perpetrators of these lies realize what a headline that emphatically declares "MC Hammer dead" as the Gospel truth does to Stanley Kirk Burrell's loved ones?

"I heard the rumor...paused, gathered my thoughts and thanked my Lord and Savior that his word and promises are true," MC Hammer wrote on his blog this morning, proving he is not dead.

MC Hammer posted a "Jesus is Love" video in the same blog posting.

"I have not completed my mission and I have yet to take my place in a light and place that you can clearly see (know) and understand me."

I was overjoyed to read the article from MC Hammer himself, dispelling his own death rumors. And I'm glad he used the opportunity to draw more eyes to our Messiah, Jesus Christ.

I felt saddened, however, when MC Hammer went on to describe where he was when the death rumors were swirling: "I had just returned from a hospital where a loved one was recovering from brain surgery..." MC Hammer continued.

"...she persevered a fifteen hour operation to remove a tumor.... She now begins the road to recovery..."

"The enemy (evil) that I fight (spiritual) attacks when he perceives one is emotionally down. My faith grows stronger during adverse times. I take this moment to declare that the God that gave me life, has not required that breath to return unto him..." MC Hammer continued, death be not proud!

"That same breath has his eternal Holy spirit in it. There is none that walks the earth or has fallen from heaven that has the authority to require my life. I am his. The CHRIST...GLORY TO HIS NAME!!!!! I also claim healing and deliverance in his name (Jesus)."

Amen to that, MC Hammer.

I pray and agree that Jehovah Rapha will heal.
