McCain is in Deep Trouble Now

So its down to Obama and McCain. The republicans tried to gain and early edge by having their candidate chosen, signed, sealed and delivered leaving the democrats a run well into June. So, now that its Obama McCain, in other words, young, minority, and fresh as opposed to old white and more of the same; how does the race shape up.

On the republican side except for some die hard Ron Paul supporters (which I saw at the Colorado Republican State Convention) the nomination is tied up and the party is far from split. However, there is a huge problem, the party is equally disillusioned, out of power in congress and seemingly unrepresented by their own president, the party doesn't know what is going on, and there is no clear leadership. No one has been really pushing republican values, needs, and desires to their own base much less the ever-increasing middle swing voters. Even McCain has been strangely silent lately.

On the Democrat side they are enjoying taking a majority of state legislators and governships in the country and the seeming democrat ground swell that is sweeping these United States. However their party is very divided especially with Clinton and Obama both articulating separate ideologies for so long. There is really two democrat parties, there is the democrat party that is not necessarily anti-republican but sees the country going in the wrong direction and wants some more attention domestically and understands the needs of the people and the pressing social issues (Obama crowd). Then there is the other half that includes the environmentalists and other extreme groups that want their own agenda and will stop at nothing to achieve it. They have been desperately trying to take over the party but, as with Clinton's loss, have been largely unsuccessful so far. Although the Democrats have pushed forth some extreme policies over the years some of the most extreme have wilted on the vine.

Moving forward, can the democrats get it together in time for the fruitful summer campaign season and can the republicans energize their base in time to counter the well-run Obama campaign machine?
