McCain - Palin Halloween Display in Hollywood:

Folks, This is Not Innocent Fun

Derek Odom
Ok, so by now we've probably all seen the display that some tool down in Hollywood has out front, depicting their rather obvious opinion on who should win the election. Is it funny? I guess in a way it could be viewed that way, especially to a high school kid. Is it offensive? Probably. If the Palin dummy were black, would this be a hate crime? The simple answer is yes.

It seems that everyone today has a sense of entitlement, a feeling that because they exist, they have certain rights. Which is true, to an extent. Because your blinker is on and you are driving, does not give you the right to merge onto the freeway and immediately shoot over to the fast lane going 55 MPH. Because you have 800 watts of heart-pounding bass in your car does not give you the right to play it whenever, wherever. And because you happen to like Obama better than his adversary, does not give you the right to make appalling, grisly advertisements of your views!

McCain is shown with a demon-like face, climbing out of the chimney, insinuating that he is spawned from Hell, and is pure evil. Sarah Palin can be seen hanging out front from an actual noose, and we don't have to assume anything about the meaning of this particular show. Why is hanging a black dummy out front completely taboo and illegal, yet this abominable scene is referred to as a holiday display? I believe a decent attorney could argue hate crime here, and have an excellent shot at the money.

So once again a complete hick moron has gone and done something absolutely off the wall, and gotten their fifteen minutes of fame out of it. As long as these wonders of evolution continue to be rewarded for outlandish behavior, they will keep acting outlandish. There is zero excuse for this display, and it is shameful. We have been taught all our lives that voting is the way to change things. People, just vote.

I don't want to see your opinions on bumper stickers, I don't want to see hideous displays in front of your home, and I don't want to see your thoughts on this election or anything else on the bottom of the screen on CNN or via Skype on Oprah. While it is unfortunate that mom and dad paid little attention to you, that you cannot get a date, or that you have an extreme attention disorder, you are still not entitled to plaster your opinion anywhere you see fit.

Found you from Angel's interview. this is a great article and commentary on our times. Ditto Randy and Tina.

I agree with Angel's comment! I hate it when people have to act like idiots and aren't civil. I've seen those displays all over the news and it's alarming. I'm sure they would have felt upset or threatened if the roles were reversed and there was a mannequin in their image hung for all to see. It upsets me that these clowns used Halloween as an excuse to put these hideous displays out on their lawns. Great post Derek!

Looks like the guys who did it were arrested. As an Obama supporter, I'm glad to see it happen.

It's true that technically these morons are within their rights. Still, there is certainly a double standard in the media. If it had been an Obama effigy it would been universally decried as a hate crime.

Idiots like this are why we have the Darwin Awards. Give this moron time and he'll be a recipient.

Oh blame it on her, D, LOLOL. It is an abuse of rights. Free speech gives you the right to say just about anything, but being an adult generally means they should understand that sometimes it isn't appropriate.

Great article. Anything about McCain/Palin is ok but Joe the Plumber gets ripped to shreds for even asking Obama a question.

Very interesting... you bring up some good points. (And yeah right, you totally watch Oprah. Don't lie.)

I guess this display technically falls under the freedom of speech laws. Although I must admit I am not so sure the kid really thought he would end up with a secret service investigation for his decor but, one way or another he got his fame from it. I honestly find the whole thing rather hilarious. The kid is probably going to even vote for McCain :). What a world we live in eh?
