McCain-Palin-The Last Hurrah Before Election Day

How Down & Dirty Will They Get?

Rose Richmond
With exactly one week left in this 2008 Historical Election, the campaign for John McCain and Sarah Palin is getting more and more desperate. As they criss cross the battleground states, they are pulling out all of the stops in the attempt to boost their ratings enough to pull this election out of the gutter.

With states such as Pennsylvania and North Carolina, being in the forefront of the battle, they are standing on stump after stump telling America that Barack Obama is lying about his tax plan and that he is a socialist.

They are still promoting him as a danger to the U.S. and now have added that having an all one party Congress and Senate could jeopardize even more of our freedoms. Yet, if I am not mistaken, we had a Republican Majority in the Congress for 6 yrs. I didn't hear John McCain fighting it then.

This campaign has been, not only a history making event, it has set several records. Obama raised more money than any candidate in the history of this country and McCain has run the nastiest campaign in the history of elections. That wouldn't be a record I would be proud of.

When he first started the campaign, even though I didn't care for him, he still appeared to have a grip on things. Then he went to the Convention and it is though he has lost his mind since. He chose Sarah Palin for a running mate first of all. Beautiful, forceful, and intelligent to some degree, she is just not VP or Presidential material. In his quest to snatch the Hillary supporters, he made a grave first error. He lost support of old timers and the women of the Republican Party who are well respected and have been working at government for years.

People started jumping ship immediately. With the exception of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bay Buchanan and the deep pockets who were already well invested in McCain, other people saw this as a mistake. People like the longtime Republican, Goldwater Family and the Laxalt Family are not supporting the McCain/Palin ticket. Why?

Then we went through the "Bridge To Nowhere", Hockey Mom, Lipstick on A Pig, and Obama too inexperienced. When that didn't seem to be working, they jumped on the Bill Ayers issue, ACORN, terrorists and the first hint of racist's overtones. They have carried that message to the point of people making threats against innocent bystanders. They not only promoted violence by being silent, they continued after being faced with the stark realities of what can happen in racial hatred situations, to taunt but deny.
We haven't heard the William Ayers rhetoric in about 2 weeks now. It seemed that after spending 3 weeks talking about him, the momentum didn't change. The more they talked, the more people switched or chose Obama. So they again changed direction.

We heard Sarah Palin, Nancy Pfotenhauer and Michelle Bachmman all declare that if you were a Obama supporter, you may not be Pro American. You may not live in a Pro American area of the United States. Or you may not think the right thoughts to be called a True American.

Now in the last week we watched Sarah change back to her clothes and deny ownership of the $150,000 wardrobe while still attacking Obama for being a socialist. McCain has told us one hundred times recently that he is not George Bush. He has condemned Bush and tried to move away from him.

Frankly, I am very tired of the game. It wasn't played this time by the rules we have seen in the past. This election campaign process for John McCain has reduced him to a sad, sad little man. He couldn't compete with Obama on a level playing field. For whatever reason, he never came together with his party to make a plan. He floundered and changed his stories. He has switched strategies some many times, I am dizzy.

I said before this election got so far, this was John McCain's attempt at leaving a "Great" Legacy. He was trying to put a final chapter in his book of life. I have never said that I blamed him for this. I do however, feel as I did when I said it months ago. It is a sad thing to watch. This supposed War Hero has shown us the guts of the man. He let the pressure and the competition get the best of him.

Now in the final days, we are seeing desperation, fatigue and division among the ranks of the Republicans and the team of John and Sarah. The rats are jumping ship as fast as they can. Ted Stevens conviction garnered a statement of resignation from McCain and three different statements from Sarah Palin. She supported him before conviction, wasn't sure afterwards until McCain made his statement. Then we heard she said he should resign as well. She is being called a "Diva", which means she is uncooperative.

This election should have shown the GOP and the Republicans her true colors. We have seen two people, who have worked and are still working to win this election at any cost. There is no "real" concern for the American People. This is about winning. If they can tell you lies to win they will. If they have to instill fear and a sense of desperation in you to win, they will. There appears to be no cost too great with these two people.

Now, the legacy that John McCain will be one of shame. The shame that a man who was willing to die in Vietnam for his country, has taken the trust of those who have supported him and tried to divide this country. This is what people will remember him for. He will be remembered for the obvious lies and nastiness he embodied while campaigning.

When all is done next week in this election process, if Barack Obama is President and he accomplishes what he has been telling us all of this time, America will remember what John McCain said. When the socialist radical ideas don't come to fruition and America has accepted Obama and have mended the division caused, they will remember what John McCain and Sarah Palin have tried to do. The one time hero and the hockey mom Governor are going to fade into the sunset. The talkshow they are trying to promote for Sarah may play for a while but it won't last. The fifteen minutes for her are nearly over.

John McCain is nearly over. There won't be a rosy legacy to leave. He has destroyed that dream. He was advised by many to get back on task and on the subjects Americans cared about. He was told he should stop attacking and start answering on the issues. He chose not to. He chose the low road and will be remembered for that. He was also told to go out with some respect, not negative memories from Americans. He didn't take that wise advice either.

I am only hoping that in these last days that he will retain at least a small amount of dignity and not just bust a gut in public. He has already appeared on several occasions to be very close to stroking out. I don't imagine that my hope will actually happen. I think he is still going to try any trick in the book until the votes are counted. We will have to see just how much more down & dirty the McCain/Palin ticket will stoop to in this final push.
