McCain's Left Eye and Other Scary Stories

Erin Thursby
Suddenly, McCain's Left Eye has become the top google search. Why? On message boards and blogs across the web, people are remarking that is left eye appears droopy or puffy.

The problem has apparently been intermittent. People have noticed it for at least a year, but his recent visibility, calling for a suspension of the campaign has put it in the spotlight. He has had skin cancer and skin was removed from the left eye area, so it's possible this might be the cause.

Much has been made of his skin cancer-that it's fatal. But the droopy eye is a new angle. People are already speculating that he has some sort of problem related to strokes.

Liberals are saying that he has a host of health problems. They imply and outright say that he'll be dead before his first term is over.

For leftists, this is a scary story to tell around the campfire. McCain's health looms large as an issue because his running mate is so damn conservative. For democrats, the scary story is McCain dropping dead and Palin filling the office of President.

McCain suspended his campaign in what appeared to be a noble gesture. But the left immediately began looking for ulterior motives. Some are speculating that he's had a series of small strokes or Bell 's palsy. Because of health, they comment on blogs, he has postponed the debates. (I think Cheney looks more like a Bell's palsy candidate than McCain. Check out the wiki entry on Bell's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell's_palsy )

But there might be other reasons he has postponed. It might be strategic. After all, the camera doesn't love the man the way it does Obama. He might want as few televised face-to-face debates with Obama as possible.

Still, the health question is an important one, and one that the left has latched onto as an issue. Even though McCain released huge report on his health in May ( azcentral.com/news/articles/2008/05/24/20080524mccain-health0524.html ) that was extremely detailed, there are still demands for a more "full disclosure." In Arizona, this blogger arizona.typepad.com/blog/2008/05/mccains-non-dis.html called it a non-disclosure disclosure, pointed out that reporters' time was restricted when looking at the document and that it was incomplete.

As of right now, there's a petition out there, signed by 600 doctors, who are asking for more complete disclosure. Check it out: minnesotaindependent.com/8818/doctors-mccains-health-an-issue-of-profound-importance

To moderates, his health matters and it matters a lot. Those swing votes who find Obama just a little too liberal might well shudder at Palin's iron conservatism.
