To all the chocoholics out there: you do not want to miss the chocolate sack at McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant in Kansas City. Created in the shape of a small bag, this bittersweet chocolate is filled with heavy whipped cream and topped with fresh strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. This is the dessert that all little sundaes dream of growing up to be.

Yet, you won't want to rush to the dessert course too fast. Offering over 30 varieties of fresh seafood and with a menu that changes daily, McCormick and Schmick's is not a one dessert operation. The food here, from appetizers to dessert, is simply a treat and you can't go wrong on any of the items. Currently, the restaurant is offering seasonal halibut in a variety of dishes, including the simple, yet effective, fish and chips. Our order of the fish and chips came out lightly battered, with a crispy coat to the delicate, flaky fish inside. We also tried the mixed grill, with salmon, filet mignon, and scallops, which proved that this seafood restaurant could easily handle grilling up a great steak as well. Don't forget to sample one of the great mixed drinks or wine from the bar; I particularly recommend the McCormick and Schmidt's version of the peach bellini.

Reminiscent of a traditional Northwest seafood eatery, the restaurant is casual, yet elegant. Dinners range from $11-30+ and offer a wide variety of seafood choices. In addition to the menu creations, most of the seafood can also be grilled, offering even more choices. For reservations, call toll-free 1-888-344-6861 or visit their website at

McCormick and Schmick's is located at Valencia Place on the Country Club Plaza and offers both traditional and open-air seating (during warmer weather). Open for both lunch and dinner, seven days a week, the restaurant offers online reservations.

When you're finished with the decedent chocolate sack, take some time to explore the Country Club Plaza. Designed in 1922 as the nation's first suburban outdoor shopping center, the Plaza features romantic Spanish architecture, European inspired art, and some of the most spectacular fountains in Kansas City. The J. C. Nichols Memorial Fountain features sculptures of four horsemen representing the rivers of the world and statues commemorate historical figures such as Benjamin Franklin and Winston Churchill. Over 150 shops and restaurants adorn the 14-block area, with each street worthy of exploration. The Plaza's shopping hours are from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
