However in life you'll find there's an exception to almost every rule. For example, I'm a Miami Dolphins fan. I like a few teams in the NFL, but for me it's all Miami. Which brings me to you, Nick Saban.
I had no choice last night but to lend my support to the Longhorns. Primarily because Nick Saban is an arrogant, pompous ass who should be blackballed by the entire NCAA and NFL for his treatment of the Miami Dolphins after he left to go to Alabama. I thought it was rude, and I think he highly disrespected every coach, player and owner that is in the NFL, by the way he left.
Has he done good things for the teams he coached in the NCAA? Sure. National titles with LSU and now Alabama. I won't deny that. Doesn't mean I have to like it. And I don't. But, his smug, overconfident interview going into halftime was enough to make me lose my dinner.
But enough about that conniving, brash sleazebag who picked up the national title last night. My main point of focus was eventually going to be Colt McCoy. The Longhorns QB, with the most wins by any college football player in history, was looking for his fourth consecutive bowl win. The most ever by a college player.
But on the second drive of the game, Colt took a hit that would take him out of the game. A bittersweet ending to what was otherwise, a brilliant collegiate career.
Their backup QB did what he could, but he is a true Freshman walking into a lion's den. By the time he had settled down and gotten into a groove, it was too late. The damage was done.
Rather, it was what happened AFTER the game that made the difference. Earlier I said I don't cheer for any other teams but OSU. But don't mistake...when a player says or does what Colt McCoy did last night, he earns a lot of respect.
After the game, he was interviewed. Holding back painful tears, he first thanked God, and then he went on to congratulate Alabama on their win. The way he did it was done with so much class and honor, you could tell he was upset, and you can't blame the kid for being mad.
It's the final game of your career, and you get injured in the first quarter and miss the rest of the game. Not the way you want to end your career. But, he stayed true, he delivered a respectful interview, didn't break down, and he got a lot of respect out of me for that. There's a concept...honor, dignity, respect...you listening, Saban?
