McDonald's 911 Call Over McNuggets Leads to an Arrest (Links to Listen to the 911 Calls)

Latreasa Davis is Not the First Person to Misuse 911 and Call Over a Fast Food Incident

Colleen Starr
Latreasa Davis, of Fort Pierce, Florida, ordered a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets from McDonald's, and after she paid for her order, she was informed they were out of Chicken McNuggets. Latreasa Davis only wanted her 10-piece Chicken McNuggets and not anything else off the menu -- as she was offered. She called 911 from McDonald's 3 times to report the incident. Each time she called 911, she explained to the 911 dispatcher what had happened. Latreasa Davis was told the first time she called 911 that an officer was coming out to speak to her. Police did arrive, but instead of helping her get her McNuggets, they arrested her for misusing 911. You can listen to the 911 McDonald's calls here.

McDonald's did release a statement apologizing for Latreasa Davis not being issued a refund like she asked for. McDonald's also offered Latreasa Davis a free Chicken McNugget meal. You can read the complete statement from McDonald's here. Latreasa Davis says she is seeking legal counsel, Channel 12 out of West Palm Beach, Florida, has reported.

Latreasa Davis is not the first person to make a 911 due to a fast food restaurant not fulfilling a order. A Bonyton Beach Florida Burger King customer called 911 in February of 2009 after they ran out of lemonade. Jean Fortune became upset when he picked up his order from the drive-thru and Burger King did not have any lemonade. Jean Fortune called 911 to report the incident and police showed up and arrested him for his misuse of the 911 system.

Another 911 Burger king fiasco happened when a woman called 911 when a Burger King would not make her Western Barbeque burger. The police were not sent out over the Burger King incident. The 911 dispatcher told the women to act like an adult and go speak to the manager about her order.

911 is designed to be used only in true emergencies. Reasons to legally call 911 include a fire, life threatening emergency or a medical emergency. State laws vary on the punishment for misusing the 911 system.

The woman is a hero. If you were put in the same situation, most of you would raised holy heck. This woman took the civilized way out and called for someone to protect her.

She was robbed of her money, pure and simple.

  • SavinMaven3/15/2009

I thought this was completely frivolous until I saw a viewer's comment on the news. He pointed out that many businesses would call the police for a theft of $5. Obviously, the woman should not have kept calling 911, but the operator should have been made that 100% clear to her during the first call. I'm sure the McDonald's register has been short at least $5 plenty of times before. Somebody should have simply given her money back before it escalated. The offer of a free meal is actually insulting at this point.

  • emanon3/7/2009

This is so typical of the entitelment class. Wasting taxper money because you didn't get your McNuggets. This is why our country is in such sad shape.

Latreasa next time, get the manager's name, and call McDonald's corp's cutomer service. They will more than make up for you McNuggets.

  • Bj3/6/2009

Only a fool would eat at these crappy fast "food" joints... and only an incosiderate, selfish and uneducated fool would endanger our lives by abusing 911 !

  • Anonymous3/6/2009

Although I agree and would have been outraged to have been in Latreasa's shoes, a more appropriate drastic measure to take could have been calling the local television station. 411 can give you that number. Aren't the stations always looking for "dirt" on people and places? And something like this does not sit well with consumers. It would have been the buzz on TV and radio for at least a week. And I guarantee, at least with McDonalds, she would have received the same treatment or better without having to be arrested which wasted tax payer dollars to send a policeman. Not to mention in many cities throughout the country there is a shortage of police. Concerning the comment on consumer protection, as a country we certainly were shown we have it when a person was allowed to sue McDonalds over a hot cup of coffee. Who orders hot coffee and doesn't expect it to be hot. That was one of the most ridiculous cases I had heard of up until that time. That case should have been thrown o
