I admit I was impressed to see that McDonald's was now using whipped cream and cherries on their new McCafe shakes. But, looks can be deceiving. When I took my first sip though, I was blown away. This milkshake could rival many ice cream shops. These shakes are no where near what McDonald's use to serve. These shakes start with soft serve ice cream and are mixed with McDonald's hot fudge sauce to create a chocolate flavor. They are then topped with delicious whipped cream and a cherry. I do have to admit that the cherries are a bit bitter, but everything else is like heaven. The hot fudge sauce gives the ice cream a bold chocolate flavor that is reminds you of a hot fudge sundae. These shakes are awesome.
Now for the bad news. A large 22 ounce McDonald's McCafe Chocolate Shake contains 880 calories, 24 grams of fat, 15 grams of saturated fat, 2 grams of trans-fat, 75mg of cholesterol, 370mg of sodium, 147 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 121 grams of sugar and 18 grams of protein. Yeah, this is basically fat and sugar in a glass, but it's so worth it.
I give this shake 5 out 5 stars. I should knock off at least half a star because of the nutritional value, or lack there of, but this shake is so good it's worth the fat and calories. However, I don't recommend eating this on a daily basis. I do recommend it as a treat when you need a chocolate pick me up though.

Post a CommentMMmmm, these sound like heaven, I will try one. :-) Good review!
will definitely have to try these--I like their regular milkshakes but I'm more of a sundae person so it sounds like these would be right up my alley. mcdonalds does have the best soft serve of all the fast food places, imo.
I haven't even been to a McDonald's in probably twenty years. They have never been my favorite. The hamburger always tasted like it was half soy or something other than beef. I'm not really a big fast food person. If I want fast food it's usually Subway, KFC or Taco Bell. The closest KFC has a buffet. They told me about two years ago they were going to take it out and put in a Long John Silver's. I think they must have heard from the customers because several months ago I asked about it and was told the buffet was staying. That's good because I don't really care for Long John Silver's. If I want pizza I go to Papa Murphy's and get take and bake. Now I'm hungry. Thank you!
